Oscar Cheatom

Mr. Oscar Cheatom, known by many names as “Uncle, Unc, Daddy, or just Oscar” peacefully transitioned on Friday, October 21, 2022 after a lengthy illness to make his final home with his Lord Savior. He departed this life knowing Jesus Christ as the Resurrection and The Life. The Father called him from labor to reward. He left this earthy home in the presence of his family. Oscar accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age by joining the Cedar Rock Baptist Church in Chester, South Carolina. Oscar was born on February 6, 1934 in Chester, South Carolina to the late Arthur and Nancy Crawford Cheatom. He was educated in the Chester County Public Schools and graduated from Finley High School in 1954. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army and served as SP3 for three years and later completed the Academy/Barber College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Cheatom was faithfully employed with the International Paper Company of Baltimore, Maryland and was later employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital of Baltimore, Maryland until his retirement. After his retirement, he devoted his time to helping the local community by providing facial and local barbering services in those whom knew him. A very soft spoken mild meek mannered individual who was dedicated to his family. On June 25, 1956, he entered into holy matrimony to Ms. Rosa Lee Parks and formed a union of eight children. Oscar's family will remember him as a man's man. He was the type of person who would choose to repair something over replacing it. He valued hard-work, honesty and the value of a man's word. He was a GREAT father, he loved with words and actions. Oscar did exactly what he said he would do. He instilled the importance of education and hard-work in his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed all sports, and was always rooting for the home team. Oscar was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. Oscar leaves loving memories with his family to cherish his loss are: Wife, Rosa; children, Rosalyn (Michael); Reginald; Gregory (deceased)), Kevin (deceased)), La-Vora; Oscar Jr (Gina), Tawanda (Aaron), Anethia, 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, a beloved sister Helen Jones (Eddie Sr.-deceased) and three brothers, David Lee Cheatom (Mary); Lloyd M. Curtis (Linda) and Phyllis Cheatom (Minglin (deceased)), and a host of dedicated nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and admirers.
