Onitiri Olayinka

Born on November 28,1954, in Nigeria, Olayinka Cole Onitiri came from a prominent Lagosian family and grew up between Port Harcourt and Lagos,as the sixth of nine children born to Olawale Cole and Angelina Onitiri nee Bango. In recognition of the miraculous circumstances surrounding his birth, he was affectionately known as "Brother Ajayi," a cultural homage that spoke to the divine favor and grace that followed him throughout his life. He carried his Nigerian heritage with pride and embodied the values of family, resilience, and service. In the late 1970s, Olayinka migrated to the United States to pursue higher education, earning his bachelor's degree in Business Economics from Indiana University. After completing his studies, he settled on the East Coast, where he found love and together they raised five wonderful children: Adekunbi, Adebayo, Modupe, Olayinka Jr., and Toluwalademi. Olayinka dedicated over 30 years of service to the Baltimore City Department of Human Services, working tirelessly as a social worker and change agent. He was a beacon of hope and guidance for countless individuals and families, providing unwavering support and advocating for those navigating government assistance programs. His compassion and commitment to his community left a lasting impact that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Following the tragic passing of his beloved wife Adekunbi Foluke Onitiri née Onipede, in 2000, Olayinka embraced the role of a single father with strength, grace, and unyielding love. He remained devoted to his children, ensuring they were raised in an environment filled with laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support. Those who knew Olayinka will remember him for his sharp wit, infectious humor, and deep devotion to his church. A man with a heart of gold, he was a loyal friend, a trusted confidant, and a steady presence in the lives of many. Whether he was cheering on his favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens, watching CNN, enjoying his favorite meal of Eba and okra soup, or indulging in his love for Chick-fil-A, he always found joy in the simple things. Olayinka, also known as "BabaEko," was a pillar of his family, a peacemaker, and a source of strength. He is survived by his loving children, cherished grandchildren, a devoted church family, and dear friends and relatives across the world. His legacy of kindness, humility, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we celebrate his life, we find solace in knowing that Olayinka lived life on his own terms positively, privately, but always with laughter. He will forever be remembered as a gentle, funny soul whose impact will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, BabaEko. Your love and legacy will forever be with us
