Oneather J. Wise

ONEATHER JAUNITA JOHNSON was the younger of two daughters born to the late Irvin Johnson and Jessie Rice Johnson, on April 4, 1930. She transitioned to her eternal rest on Saturday, October 6, 2012. At an early age, Oneather was baptized at Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church. As she grew up, she attended Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Church where she served on the Usher Board, and was a faithful participant in the Sunday School. In her later years, she became a member of Pilgrim’s Way Bible Baptist Church. Oneather received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Frederick Douglass Senior High School in 1948. She was employed by the Baltimore City Public School System as a crossing guard. Assigned to the Callaway Elementary School located in northwest Baltimore, Oneather proved to be an exemplary employee who enjoyed working with and assuring the safety of the children. In addition to her duties as crossing guard, she was also employed as a substitute teacher at Callaway. She retired in 1985 after completing 20 years of dedicated service. Affectionately referred to as “Nana”, Oneather was devoted to her family. She was their spiritual advisor and confidante, and was willing to assist whenever there were matters that needed to be resolved. Her home, which she shared with her sister, Edith Johnson, was the center for family gatherings. The family will always remember the many holidays they shared at Nana’s house. A woman of strong faith who ;loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Oneather enjoyed reading The Holy Bible, listening to inspirational music on “Heaven 600”, watching the “700 Club”, and attending Mother-Daughter luncheons held at Pilgrim’s Way Bible Baptist Church. One of her favorite pastimes was doting on her loving daughter Vallorie. So strong was the bond between Oneather and Vallorie that they spent as much time together as they possibly could. They would even wear matching outfits when attending various activities. Oneather leaves to cherish happy memories: her daughter, Vallorie Patricia Sharp; son-in-law, Thomas Sharp; three grandchildren, Felicia Sharp, Letictia Talbott (Theodore) and Thomas C. Sharp; four great-grandchildren, Alicia Sharp, Travon Sharp Espita, Kiah Talbott and Irvin Sharp; one sister, Edith Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and a devoted friend, Sarah Jackson.
