Ollie Mae Cedonia Brown

Mae Cedonia Brown was born on July 30, 1928, in Baltimore City to the late Charles and Matilda Spellman. She quietly and peacefully returned to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to receive her crown, April 25, 2017. Ollie was the eldest of 7children born to the late Charles and Matilda Spellman; she had two sisters (the late Zatella and Annette) and four late brothers (Charles Jr, Calvin, Clinton and Donald). When Ollie was very young her father passed away. Years later, her mother married Wilbert Adams and from that union her youngest brother Ray was born. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. At the age of thirteen she became employed with Johns Hopkins Hospital in order to help support the family. Upon leaving Johns Hopkins Hospital, she gained employment with Bob's Big Boy Restaurant from where she retired after more than 30 years of service. She met the love of her life, John T. Brown, Sr., in 1946. They were married on March 1, 1947 and from this union two children were born: John T Brown Jr., and Verona Z. Henderson. John Sr. preceded her in death on December 20, 1981. She was raised in a Christian home and was baptized at Fountain Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Barrow. On January 5, 1978 Ollie moved her membership and became a chartered member of the Ray of Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Charles M. Franklin, Sr. She served faithfully on the Social Action Committee and the Mass Choir. She attended church regularly until her health failed. Ollie enjoyed traveling and making friends wherever she went. She had no drivers license but was like a human GPS. She could tell you how to get to any place in Baltimore. Finally, Ollie was devoted to her family and was a true friend to all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, John Jr.; one daughter Verona Z.; seven grandchildren, Franklin Jr. (Michelle), Renee, Derrick (Melissa) of Jacksonville, Fl., Matthew, Barbara, Dominique; nine great-grandchildren, Courtney, Brittany, Derrick Jr., Tyshawna, Ahmaya, Michaela, Frankie, Dehman, and Travon; three great-great-grandchildren, Elijah, Taylor and Antwonze III; one sister, Annette Catlett; brother, Ray Adams; a special devoted son, Charles Chambers; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
