Olivia Delores Davis

OLIVIA DELORES JONES DAVIS age 57, departed this life and went home to be with the Father on Thursday, August 11, 2005. She was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky on July 16, 1948 to Mary Magdeline Jones and Oliver David Jones. Sr., (Kaiserslautern, Germany).Olivia was converted, and baptized by the Reverend Roscoe Banks, at First Baptist Church, Washington Park (Richmond).She was later invited by friends to visit First Baptist Church South Richmond, where she and her family subsequently joined. She served in the Sheepfold Ministry as a Sheepfold Leader and as choir mother for the Youth Choir. She was called to the Deacon’s Ministry where she served as secretary for the past several years. She also served as coordinator for the Sunday Morning Breakfast Ministry.Olivia was raised as a child of an Army soldier and traveled extensively. She finally settled in Richmond, Virginia, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Daniel. They were married for 39 years. Through this union, three children were born.In addition to caring for her children, she pursued a career, first as a church secretary, then as a Compliance Supervisor for United Network for Organ Sharing and , finally, as an office associate with Richmond Public Schools. Although she enjoyed her career and the interesting work that it involved, her favorite aspect of work and in other areas of her life was making friends.Olivia received certification as a Clerk/Typist in 1972. She attended Averett University and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business in 2000 along with her son, Derwood, who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree.She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Olivia is survived by her adoring and loyal husband, Daniel A. Davis; loving and devoted mother, Mary M. Jones; three children and their spouses: Daniel A. Jr. (Pam), Derwood (Linda), and Dalyce Logan (Antoine); six grandchildren: Diona, Octavia, Isaiah, Denzel, Samantha Olivia, and Zion. She is survived by two sisters: Cecil G. “Mikki” Gales (Ronnie) and Bertha M. Banks; one brother, Oliver D. Jones, Jr. In addition, she is survived by two special aunts: Gaynell Quarles and Catherine Pope, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many, many dear friends.
