Oliver Lee Wilson

OLIVER LEE WILSON, son of the late Joseph T. Wilson and Martha Wilson, was born January 7, 1936 in Ahoskie, North Carolina. He departed this life May 11, 2015 after a brief illness. In his early years, Oliver accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Always eager to talk about Jesus, he was dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant Church and Ministries for over 50 years. “Slim”, as he was affectionately known to all, received his education at C.S. Brown High School in Winton, North Carolina. After graduation, he came to Baltimore, Maryland and was employed at American Smelting Company for 20 years. He also worked at Bethlehem Steel as a Crane operator, helping many African American Crane Operators learn the trade. Alone the way, he drove for the Sun Cab Company. Slim's love, as everybody knows, was managing Bars (Scorpio, Thunderett). In 2003 Slim became owner of his own Bar “Slim's Ace of Club”, where family and friends gathered and much fun was bad by all. Brother Wilson was a dedicated, proud and faithful member of the Absolom David # in New Jersey for 31 years. He then came to Baltimore and started Mt. Moriah #27. He loved his Brothers everywhere and his Brothers loved him. On November 9, 1936, he married Carolyn Weldon who preceded him in death. Slim loved dancing, playing cards, shuffleboard, and hanging out with the guys. To know him was to love him. He had a way with words (especially “Excuse Me”), that would bring a smile to your face. The tapping of his finger and stirring of the straw in his glass were ways of getting your att4ention, but most of all, “Slim” had an Angelic Smile. On January 7, 2010, Oliver was joined in Holy Matrimony to Marion I Lucas who he truly loved; and she truly loved him. “Slim and Marion did a lot of traveling, and enjoying each other along the way. He leaves to cherish his memory; loving wife, Marion I Wilson; three daughters, Rosalind Kane, Cheryl Pratt and Yvonne Coleman; two step-daughters, Charmaine Baker and Talese Baker; son, Lionel Wilson; two step-sons, Kenneth Waters and Aaron Baker; two sisters, Nicey Johnson and Mary Vann; sister, Alive Garnett and Berder Wilson preceded him in death; three brothers, Jerry Wilson, Joseph Wilson and Charlie Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Darryl Kane; nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a 60 year friend, Carlos Hammond (Los); many “Special Male and Female Friends”- too many to name individually, his Tuesday evening pinochle players Ben, Los and Jimmy; dedicated barmaids, Curlie, Pam, Mary, Vera and Cat; and a host of other relatives, past barmaids. And friends.
