Olive E. Jackson

Olive Elizabeth Edges Knight Jackson was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 17, 1935 to loving parents, late James and Mary Edges. Olive was such a cute baby her mother called her Cuteney Baby. She grew up in a loving and caring home.At an early age, Olive was introduced to Christ by getting baptized in her home church. St. Mary The Virgin Episcopal Church. Olive followed the teachings given to them by the Church and as she grew older she joined the Episcopal Church Women’s Group which organized events held in and out of the church.Olive attend Dunbar Junior and Senior High School where she excelled in her studies. She with her girlfriends went to many Poets football games and celebrated when they won.Olive met Samuel Alexander Knight at one those games and eventually they married. Out of this union Vanessa Cecelia Knight and Samuel Alexander Knight, Jr. were born products.Olive worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital when it was on Caroline Street. She loved it so much until when they moved she continued to work at various other hospitals such as Johns Hopkins, Mercy and Levindale Nursing Home Olive then went into private homes to care for the sick. She often said she loved what she did or she would not have stayed in that field of work.Olive then met the real love of her life Tommy Jackson who asked for her hand in marriage. They had a wonderful life traveling, visiting cities she’d never been going to football games and racetracks. They loved every minute of it. Olive met many friends.Many of her family and friends called her “Ollie”. Anyone that knew Ollie knew she loved her family and they were the most important part of her life. Olive made family, friends or anyone she met smile and always said something funny. Olive was a faithful servant at St. Mary’s before her health failed. She talked about church but could not attend any longer.Our Heavenly Father looked down from Heaven and saw a tired soul. He looked at her record and saw all the work was well done. He dispatched an angel to escort Ollie to her Heavenly home. There she will be with her beloved Tommy, mother Mary, father James and sisters and brothers that preceded her, James Edges, Eugene Edges and Jonathan; also Gloria and Mary her sisters. Olive’s memory will be forever cherished by her daughter, Vanessa, son Samuel (Peppie); two sisters, Jean Sherrod and Joanne Brown; grandchildren, Alexander, Celina Coleman, Shanelle Knight, Anthony and Calvin Hemphill; four great-grandchildren; Lajae, Destiny, NaAah and Alexander III; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including best friend Josephine.
