Odell Lightner Jr.

Odell Lightner, Jr., beloved son of Minister Carolyn Lightner and the late Odell Lightner, Sr. who preceded him in death May 31, 2006 was born September 28, 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland. On Saturday, March 3rd, while working, God called Odell Lightner, Jr. home. He accepted the Lord Jesus at an early age at the Southern Baptist Church; in 2011, he renewed and rededicated his life and relationship with the Lord. Odell attended Northern High School and later attended Peabody School of Music where he was a guitar major. He worked for Mayflower Van Lines and Russ Funeral Home. He especially enjoyed his time working for Baltimore City as a Supervisor for the Housing & Transportation Department where he recognized his passion for home repairs. Affectionately called Junior, the son of a “Legend” (Odell, Sr.), he loved his family and was known throughout Baltimore City and the surrounding vicinity for his entrepreneurial spirit. He owned “Odell’s Magic Paints”. He loved painting houses; it didn’t make a difference if he worked inside or outside. H was exceptionally gifted in his trade, enjoyed what he did and took pride in his work. Odell, Jr. devoted his life to volunteering and helping others with home repairs and in his neighborhood. He had several hobbies including working on antique cars, traveling and playing checkers and cards. Junior loved singing gospel songs just like his dad and spending time with his family. One of his favorite “pass-times” was riding his bicycle alongside his dad Odell, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Minister Carolyn Lightner, his grandmother Ora Lewis, two daughters, Sherice Lightner of Richmond, Virginia and Annastasia Brown Lightner of Baltimore, Maryland, his loving sister, Sandra Lewis from Baltimore, Maryland, his brother, Chester Davis from Richmond, Virginia and devoted niece, Vanessa Goodwin of Baltimore, Maryland and her children, Angel, Trinity and Isaiah. Odell, Jr. was also the proud grandfather of three grandsons, Knowledge, Knyzell, and Wisdom of Richmond, Virginia. Also cherishing his memory are six aunts and two uncles- Barbara Coleman, Dana Jackson, Hattie Lewis, Flora Lightner, Sarah Robinson and Herman Robinson of Baltimore, Maryland, Eleanor Lewis of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Allen Lewis of Lynchburg, Virginia. Memories of Odell Lightner, Jr. will also be cherished by his cousins, friends, Gail Henson, great-uncle, Melvin Blakey, Brox, New York and his spiritual mothers, Deaconess Susie Harris and Rev. Hughetta Whitaker. Odell Lightner, Jr. will continue to live through the lives of his daughters and grandsons.
