Norvin D. Jones

NORVIN DARRELL JONES, son of Gloria and the late Warren Donald Jones, was born on January 29, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life suddenly on November 3, 2022 after a brief illness. Norvin was raised up in Douglass Homes of East Baltimore with his family and friends. He received his education in Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. He was also fortunate to spend some time at college in California where he tried out for the basketball team. After interviewing with the late councilman Dominic “Mimi” DiPietro, he received his job working for the Baltimore City Department of Public Works, Division of Solid Waste until an unfortunate knee injury caused him to retire after many years of service. He would often talk how the people appreciated him and treated him on his route for his service. Affectionately known as “Rell”, “Ralph” or “Big Ralph” by many who knew him, he was loved and cherished by family and friends. He had no problem joking on people. Norvin enjoyed playing sports coming up, especially basketball with his close friends. They would go to various locations in Baltimore City playing other teams. Norvin spent some time wrestling for McKim Center and Dunbar High School. As he got older and less active, he loved talking sports and keeping up with his close friends and those he grew up with at the barbershop. But one of the highlights of his life was taking care of his big black Ford truck that he kept washed and waxed. Norvin loved spending time with his family, children and grandchildren at the family gatherings especially at cousin Vanessa’s house. He had a special affection for his granddaughter, London. He was preceded in death by his father Donald; sisters Pamela, Towanda, Danielle; brothers Charles, Nicholas; son Darrell. He leaves to cherish his memory: two children, Norvin Jr. and Shavonia; mother, Gloria; sister (Glenda); two brothers, Warren (Carolyn) and Antonio; eight grandchildren, Myona, Myrin, Breonna, Deshawn, Breyelle, Devin, Shanell and London; two great-grandchildren, Demi and Karter; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as three best friends, Mark, Milburn and Lil Reggg.
