Norman Rydell Goodrich

Norman Rydell Goodrich,affectionately called "Rydell",was born on May 5,1961,to Willie Hilliard Goodrich and the late Mildred Louise Walker Goodrich. He went home peacefully to be with the Lord,July 2,2010,at Bon Secours St. Frances Hospital,Midlothian ,Virginia. Accepting Christ as his personal Savior at an early age,he was baptized and fellowshipped into Zion Union RZUA Church,Lawrenceville,Virginia. He began his spiritual growth journey while attending sunday school and church services. Norman was educated in Brunswick County Schools. Upon graduating,he attended Virginia State University and earned a BA degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice in 1984. Soon after graduation,Norman began his career in criminal justice at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Petersburg,Virginia. In 2001,he received a MS degree from Central Michigan University in Human Resources. He started in Inmate System Management(ISM)and moved to Human Resources where he worked for twenty-three years. While in Human Resources,Norman loved helping and assisting people with acquiring a federal position at the prison. He transferred to the central office in Washington,DC and worked as a Management Analyst until he became ill. Norman was a member in the Nu Omicron Lambda,Fort Lee Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated,National Epicureans,Petersburg Chapter and Connecting Link,Richmond Chapter of The Links Incorporated. In 1998,he was joined in holy matrimony to Dr. Joy Poindexter,which he affectionately called "MY JOY". He was preceded in death by his mother,Mildred Louise Walker Goodrich;brother,Willie Hilliard Goodrich,Jr. and grandmothers,Gladys P. Walker and Beatrice Tubman. Norman's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife,Dr. Joy P. Goodrich;father Willie Hilliard (Louise);two sisters,Frances Doretha Austin (James),and Gladys Denise Stith (Christopher),three brothers,Russell Edward(Pearl),Rodney Orlando, and Tyrone Douglas (Pamela)Goodrich;three stepsisters,Gertie Braan(Lucien),June and Loretta Adams;grandmother,Catherine Rawlings;mother-in-law, Ardella Robinson(Paul);brother-in-law,Charles A. Poindexter;sister-in-law,Rev. Yolando Williams(Clinton);seven aunts, Virginia Adams,Vashi Smith(George),Mary Giles,Gladys Taylor,Rosalyn Holder,Nan Hite(James),Olivia Lewis(Lee);five uncles,John Rawlings(Sandra),Frankie Tubman(Renee),John Henry Hopkins(Allison),Tyrone Hopkins,Michael Hopkins;devoted friends,Robert Jones and Charlene Evans,a host of nieces,nephews,other relatives and friends.
