Norman Stanley Chase

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Norman Stanley Chase, son of the late Harry Johnson and Bernice Chase Johnson was born on December 4, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland. On Friday, July 21, 2023, after a lengthy illness, God told him that he fought long enough, and it was time to transition to his Heavenly home. Norman received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. For over 30 years, he worked at the Schmidt Baking Company and retired as a loading dock supervisor. He took great pride in providing his neighbors and family with bread and pastries when he was working. Norman met and married his teenage sweetheart, the late Mary E. Chase. They were together for over 60 years, until her passing in 2017. From their union, they had a daughter, Norma Bridget, and three sons: Norman Jr., Michael, and Derrick. His name Norman is carried on by his son, grandson and great-grandson. “Boss,” as he was affectionately known, was a loving and dedicated husband and father. His family was his life, and he especially enjoyed celebrating family members' birthdays. He was well-liked and had many loyal friends who preceded him in death. In his spare time, he watched football and Westerns, where he marveled at the fact that he knew all the actors. Norman was confirmed and raised in the Catholic Church at St. Peter Claver. He was an altar boy there, and his family has decades of membership and service at the same parish. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry and Gordon; and his sister, Bernice (Cissie). He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Norma; sons, Norman, Michael (Shawn), Derrick (Darlene); a devoted niece who was like a daughter, Yolanda; eight grandchildren, Erica, Norman III, Donald Jr., Ashley, Derek, Tamere, Michael Jr., and Nicholas; a host of great-grandchildren; his sisters, Marlene Brown (Otha), Shirley Nichols, and Sheila Churchill; three brothers-in-law, Charles Saddler, Vernon Cook, Darryl Lee (Eincenza); four sisters-in-law, Deloris Cook, Debra King, Denise Price, Erin Burley (Kenneth); his only living aunt/Godmother, Majorie Purvey; two family friends who also served as helpers during his illness: Herman Hazelwood and Maurice Crosby; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many devoted friends.
