Norma Austin Turner

Legacy of Life “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith” Norma Austin Turner was born on August 1, 1935, in Loundon County, Virginia to the late Levi Austin and Ruby Broadnax Austin. She was baptized at the early age of 10 in Chesterfield County Virginia and was an active church member during her youth. Norma was educated in the Chesterfield County school system and graduated at the age of 15 years old. While attending Virginia Union University, Norma married. The union produced four children, Calvin Jr., Darryl, Marlon, and Michelle. Norma started her career as a secretary for the Richmond Public School system where she worked for over 20 years before retiring. She was dedicated to the service of helping others and took great pride in her work. In 1998 she met and married Arthur L. Turner, Sr., and moved to New Kent County, Virginia. There she worked for 11 years as a driver for New Kent County Public Schools. She was also an active member of Lebanon Baptist Church, where she served in the Inspirational Choir, Sanctuary Choir, Church History Committee, Librarian, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and in any other role she was called to fill. She will always be remembered for her love of the Lord and her strong faith. Her fun-loving sense of humor and warm smile will be dearly missed by all, and she will never be forgotten. Norma was a very loving and kind person. She could light up any room with her smile and bubbly personality. Her magnetic ways were full of charm and charisma. She was known for her generosity, fabulous fashion sense and her remarkable singing voice. Norma will be sorely missed by everyone she touched. She was truly blessed and a dedicated heaven-sent mother and grandmother. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Turner, Sr., and her son, Marlon A. Winfree. She is survived by her sons, Calvin M. Winfree, Jr. (Shannon) and Darryl A. Winfree; daughter, Michelle W. Jones (Miles); five grandchildren, Tiffany D. Winfree, Stefen C. Jones, Brittany W. Hooge, Julian L. Jones, and Brandon M. Jones; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hooge, Chase Jones, and Chance Jones; a host of other relatives and friends.
