Nora Lee Evans

Nora Lee Evans was born August 5,1922, the eldest of five children to the late Aliya (Andrew) and Mary Brogdon in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life following a lengthy illness on July 18, 2012. Nora was educated in the Baltimore City Public system and was employed as a Bench-hand with Western Electric in the early 40's. She also worked for years as a domestic . The family she worked for loved her and continued to communicate with her over the years following her retirement. Nora was married to the late Willie Evans and attended the First Baptist Church for years. Known affectionately as Mrs. Evans to her friends and neighbors, Nora loved people. She greeted everyone who crossed her path with a hearty hello or good morning and held extended conversations with strangers. She shared her advice with all who would listen often telling young woman , “You can do bad by yourself.” While Nora enjoyed the company of all , her, first love was her family,She enjoyed talking on the telephone with her sisters and cousins, even when she had dailed the wrong number she still converse with the person as if they were an old friend, She cherished visits with her nieces and nephews, She enjoyed hearing how the family was growing and how each was succeeding in their own individual way. She loved the weekly family gathering that took place in her home where there was plenty of food fun and loud noise. She took pride in all of her grandchildren and shared special moments with each of them. It was important to her that they learned their “numbers” and “ABC,s” so she taught them all to play games such as, Pitty Pat War, Jacks Nora continued to play these games until she was no able. As her health began to fail, Nora could no longer do the things she loved so much such as sitting on her steps talking with neighbors, reading, hand sewing, and maintaining her garden, which was always full of her famous Four O'clock flowers. Her family will always remember fondly her requests for Pepsi, Bubble Gum,and Scratch-offs. She will sorely be missed. She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Rosalie Powell, Barbara England, Lorraine Peacock, Jacqueline Evans-Davenport, two son-in-law, Earl Peacock and Charles Davenport, ten grandchildren, Clinton Powell , Sherone Hoops, Tamara England, Tajuane Carlos, Yvette (George) Gross, Janynee Covington, Ryan England, Ericka Davenport and Dyon Davenport and Tanicka Davenport, eighteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren, one sister Edna Bennett, a special cousin Margo Purdy and a host of other family and friends who all loved her.
