Nikita Willie Groom

Nikita’s Genesis Experience- began on January 23, 1959 from the union of the late David Samuel and Lydia Doris Groom. He was the second youngest of seven children. One of whom Matilda Jossetta Alexander preceded him into Eternal Life at an early age. Nikita became a member of Third Lutheran Church and was baptized under the Pastorship of Reverend Lynell Carter. Nikita was a very easygoing individual and although he made friends very easily he liked to stay to himself. Nikita loved to eat and loved his mother’s cooking.Nikita’s Exodus to Malachi Experience- was lived Senior High School. After graduating he went on to what was then called Stayer’s Business College where he received a Certificate in accounting. Upon completion He went to work at H and H Liquors. It was during this time he met Linda Watson, the mother of his daughter Lakita Nicole Groom; whom he always called Cole. Nikita loved his daughter and developed a fatherly and loving relationship with Lakita’s sibling, Marquita, Tiffany and Ashley. After leaving H and H Liquors he went to work at the Baltimore Sun Papers.Nikita’s Matthew to Acts Experience-During this period in his life Nikita went to work at The Bargain Depot in Laurel, Maryland. It was during this period in hid life that he gave his life to the Lord and started reading the Work of God for understanding and meaning. One of Nikita’s favorite scriptures in the Bible was the 23 division of Psalms which he would discuss with his sister Vanessa. He was very enlightened in how the scriptures came to life. Nikita like all of us had trials and tribulations. It was during the illness of his mother that you were able to see the humility in Nikita. His mom was in the last stages of her life and was unable to swallow and therefore would not eat because it was very painful; but Nikita was able to feed her and you could see her swallowing her food. The bond that developed between the two of them was very beautiful.Nikita’s Revelation Experience-Nikita was hurt on the job and would go to the doctors for the pain in his back. It was during this time in his life that he stopped walking in October 2008 and he went to Union Memorial Hospital room. It was during this visit that he was diagnosed with cancer of the lungs, and bones. Nikita went to have a second opinion conducted a week later a Saint Joseph’s Hospital. He was during this time that he was told that the cancer was in his spine and that he was at end stage. Given this news you would hear Nikita say, “If It’s my time to go I am ready; I just want to know that this is what God wants.” To see Nikita you would never have known that he had cancer. He never complained. When he was in pain you never would have known. He indeed was a soldier for the Lord. It was on Thursday December 4,2008, that Nikita heard the Lord say “Come Home My Son, Come Home and Rest.”Nikita leaves to remember him: his daughter, Lakita; two brothers, Dr. Franklin J. Addison and Samuel A G. Groom; three sisters, Vanessa Z. Crutchfield, Reverend Hattie P. Groom and Gloria G. Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Crutchfield and Elmore Johnson; sister-in-law, Carolyn Addison; three nephew, David Johnson, Carnell Groom and Tykell Johnson; four nieces, Jacqueline Addison, Rachel Crutchfield, Ashley Johnson and Lydia Groom; two aunts, Victoria Middleton of South Carolina and Pearl Groom of Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
