Nia Jones

Nia Jones, the daughter of Melvin R. Jones Sr. and the late Irene E. Trusty, was born March 2, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland departed this life on January 31, 2007 after a short illness.Nia received her education Towson Catholic High School in Towson, Maryland and furthered her education at the University of Alabama (Crimson Tides).At an early age, NJ, as she affectionately known, loved the game of basketball. She played for Lynhurst (Mr. Banks), Flag House (Mr. Selby), Walbrook High School (Mr. Connelly), and Towson Catholic (Mr. Grason). In addition to playing basketball, NJ was an avid basketball and football fan; as evident in her watching games morning noon and night on ESPN. Another interest she had was watching cooking shows. Nia’s culinary specially was her tender and tasty greens.Nia held variety of jobs. She served as a youth works counselor, an office manager a house manager, and a correctional officer. At the time of her death, shortly as she was known by her co-workers, was employed at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, where she had been employed for the past four years.Nia enjoyed taking it to the house, her favorite dance. Nia loved to laugh and have fun. Quite witty, she liked to joke and had a wonderful spirit of humor. Nia received pleasure from and appreciated quality time with family and friends; especially with her sidekick, her loving sister, Zina. NJ is loved and will be sorely missed.‘Nia leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Melvin R. Jones Sr., her sisters; Deborah, Zina and Danette Trusty, Angela Jones-Carmen, and Chanel Muse, her brothers; Anthony Trusty, Kevin, Melvin Jr., and Bernard Jones; aunts; Estelle and Esther Trusty aka Polly and Esther, uncles; John and Robert Trusty, great-aunt; Irene Gordon, great-uncles; Wilbert and Edward Trusty, brother-in-law; James Carmen Sr., niece; Demirriar aka Ashley, nephews; Pierce, Daniel, DeMeal, DeAndre, DeOntaz, Michael, and James Jr., her god-mother; Joan Lomax, her god-daughter; Shakia Trusty, a devoted friend; Lance Fuller, her homroy; James Wilson (Jimbo), and a host of relatives and friends.
