Nellie Sharp

Nellie Sharp, daughter of the late Penny Fraling and Johnny Coleman, was born on November 8, 1931 in Durham, North Carolina. She departed this life on March 26, 2003.She received her education in the public school systems of Durham, North Carolina and Baltimore City. She was a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. Her life long profession was that of a Central Supply Technician. She worked in this field at Holy Cross in Washington, D.C., Saint Agnes, Church Home and Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She worked at GBMC for twenty-three years, until her health failed. GBMC awarded her for outstanding attendance, service and schooling opportunities.Nellie accepted the Lord at the age of twenty-two. She was baptized at Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church. She later became one of the founding members of Solid Rock Free Will Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board, Kitchen Committee and Pastor’s Aide. Recently, she moved her membership to Zion Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Anthony Johnson. There, she was the president of the Pastor’s Aide and part of the Kitchen Committee.Nellie enjoyed life. She liked to cook, travel and be with her family. At one time, se belonged to the bowling League at GBMC. She enjoyed being around people. She was a member of the “We Five” and “Jolly Makers” social clubs. Nellie made many friends and will be greatly missed.She leaves to mourn: her husband, Frank; five daughters, Earline Thompson, Phillis Goods, Yvonne Hemsley, Eleanor Goods and Trea Douglas; son, Gregory Drake; two sons-in-law, Harold and Willie Goods; daughter-in-law, Deloris Bates; sister, Montrose Jeffries of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, three brothers and sisters-in-law of Florida, Henry Sharp Jr., Amos Brown, Joseph Brown and Vera; two favorite nieces, Yvonne Contee and Susie Sharp; two favorite nephews, Daryl and Kenny Sharp; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two lifelong friends, Vergie Maddux and Ester Harvin; a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
