Nellie Ruth Bunch

NELLIE RUTH BUNCH, daughter of the late Daniel and Eva Battle, was born March 1, 1929 in Wilson County, NC. She was called to rest by her Savior on October 25, 2009 after a lengthy illness.She grew up loving the Lord in Sharpsburg, NC where she graduated Valedictorian of her class from Frederick Douglass High School. She fell in love with Willie Maryland and had her first child Bernard Battle. Later in life, she met and united in Holy Matrimony with Pugh C. Bunch, Jr. on November 27, 1953. They married in Bennettsville, S.C. and moved to Baltimore, MD, seeking better opportunities for their life. She studied hard and became a nurse at Baltimore City Hospital in 1961 working for 30years, serving on the Cancer floor to the Operating Room. She retired November, 1991. While enjoying her retirement, she traveled to Hawaii, Jamaica, Florida, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands but her favorite spot to frequent was Las Vegas. She enjoyed going to the movies, seeing plays (anything Tyler Perry) and of course she enjoyed attending church. She sang on the choir at Charity Baptist for several years before joining Little Ark Missionary Baptist Church under the fine leadership of Reverend Matthew Marcus, Sr. After many years under the leadership of Reverend Marcus, he passed the torch to Pastor J.L. Carter who is the shepherd of the flock today. She joined and served faithfully on the Pastor’s Aid and Silver and Gold Ministries. She served her church well and showed her love and kindness to everyone.Nellie leaves to mourn: three sons, Bernard Battle of Washington, D.C., Darrell W. Bunch of Baltimore, MD and Daniel W. Bunch of Fresno, CA; one beautiful daughter, Sharon E. Bunch of Baltimore, MD (four brothers preceded her in death). She also leaves to mourn: two sisters-in-law, Lois Battle of Rocky Mount, NC and Thelma Battle of Washington, DC.; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Bunch of Fresno, CA; nine grandchildren, Jessica E. Clark of Baltimore, MD, Darice W. Bunch of Baltimore, MD, Kia White of Fresno, CA, Keith Battle of Princess Anne, MD, Kelvin Battle of Washington, DC, Bernard Battle, Jr. of Washington, DC, Justin Stalks of Durham, NC; six great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
