Nellie L. Waters

NELLIE LILES WATERS, daughter of Mixie and Charlie Liles,was born on May 12, 1941in Lilesville, North Carolina. The late Marjorie Liles , her Stepmother raised Nellie from the tender ageof twelve, after the departure of Mixie. Nellie departed this life onThursday , September 28, 2006 Nellie joined Sweet Hope Freewill Baptist Church at an earlyage. She received her education at Carver High School and CatonsvilleCommunity College where she earned her LPN License. Upon completionof education, she worked several years in nursing at Harbor City Hospital and private duty at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore City. In 1962, she met the love of her life, Raymond Theodore Waters, and they were married in November of 1970. It was a marriage of sharing, profound love and happiness. They were inseparable and lived in bliss until he departed this life on December 30, 1989. She never remarried, for no one could take his place. In 1971, Nellie was employed by Social Security Administrator (SSA). Encouraged by her husband, she sought extensive business training. In the early 1980’s she was promoted to supervisor and worked in several departments. She received numerous awards for her work performance. She retired in 1993. Nellie made numerous friends and acquaintances. Her finesse, poise, and charm created a nourishing and optimistic atmosphere. Her interests included jazz and gospel. She was an avid football and basketball fan. In her spare time she enjoyed shopping and crossword puzzles. She will be sincerely missed. She leaves to mourn: her sister, Charlie M. Goodwin (Doris Liles preceded in death); aunts, Tressie Norris, Elsie Bennett, Thomasina Lies and Mrs. Walter L. Liles; three uncles, John M. Liles, Richard Edward and Grant Edwards; nieces, Sheila Liles, Melba O. Goodwin and Pamela Bellamy; nephews, George Goodwin, Richard L. Goodwin, Keith Goodwin and Clarence H. Goodwin; special great-niece and -nephew, Keysha Y. Goodwin and Chauncy Liles; niece, Trachell Goodwin; dear cousins, Ardena Gregory, Vivian Paysour and Clinton Simon; special friends, Edith Thomas, Ella Gold and Marian Carter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
