Nellie Brown

On July 10, 1936 a beautiful flower named Nellie Brown was born to the late Albert and Ora Lewis in Banks, Arkansas. It was a peaceful morning on January 11, 2015 that God called his bloomed flower home to add to his garden. Nellie attended the Anne Arundel County Public School System and was a graduate of Bates High School, Class of 1955. She was employed at Crownsville Mental Hospital for over 30 years, upon retiring from Crownsville she took some time off and later became employed at Bello Mach re from 1999-2013 where she had a special love for her clients. She was a member of The Prince Hall Grand Lodge Queen Esther Chapter as well as an active member of the Bates Alumni. She was a very creative person that employed sewing and had a love for catering. Nellie loved her family and always willing to assist with whomever, wherever and whenever there was a need. Nellie accepted Christ at an early age and attended Gateway to Heaven Church under the leadership of Elder Frank Braxton and Pastor Durretti and later became a very faithful and active membership at Kingdom Life Church (KLC) where she took on the title as “Mother Nellie”. She took pride in the vision at KLC using her creative abilities to enhance the vision. Mother Nellie led the idea to start a Pew rally to increase the building fund goal and even on a church outing she immediately began a raffle for the building fund on the bus using her own artistic items as the raffle give-a-way. She was always thinking of ways to contribute at Kingdom Life Church even offering her hands in the kitchen during events or donating her famous seven layer salad, tuna roll or dirt cake dessert. She was gifted in arts and crafts and was very involved with whatever her hands could find to do. Mother Nellie was very active in the Sunday School Department teaching the “me too” class which is the kindergarten class of KLC. All the children loved her as she always promised candy if they did well during class. She also used to assist KLC with serving communion. In the quest for deeper meaning of life and someone to share it with she married the lover of her life Leroy Wee Wee Tilly Brown and from that union they had two children Anita (Sis) and Paul. Nellie will be reunited with her parents, daughter and sidekick Sis, four brothers and two sisters who have also preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish: one son, Alvin (Paul); four grandchildren, Alvin (Jody), Kimberly, Paul (Spank), and Ernest (Bumpie); one sister, Pearl Boozer (Best Friend): two brothers-in-law. Eugene Hudson and Anthony Pearmon: five sisters-in-law, Joan, Lorraine, Patricia, Francis and Debbie; eight great-grandchildren, Troy, Kayla, Kaylib, Kenedee, Jace, Blake, Mason and Franklin III. Nellie also had a special love for Charles whom she looked at as one of her children as well as two close friends, Barbara and Freeda and a nursing assistant Leiah.
