Neils Christian Dunn

Neils Christian Dunn was born on December 18, 1962 to the late Doris Shiels and Roger Dunn in Washington, DC. Neils received his formal education in Montgomery County School System in Silver Spring, Maryland. He furthered his education at Howard University,in Washington, DC, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, minoring in Political Science, in 1986. In 1996, Neils received a Master of Art in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore, Maryland. Neils was united in marriage to Charlmonique Jamelle Lewis on August 16, 2005 in Rockville, Maryland. To this union was born a beautiful son, Christian Charles Dunn. Neils adored his son and wanted the world for him. When Neils put pen to paper, Christian was his inspiration for many poems. He also loved his family. Neils displayed unwavering commitment to his family and friends and had the ability to always bring everyone together. Neils loved teaching and his career spanned more than 20 years. He taught Elementary and Middle School, in Montgomery County, Maryland as well as in Prince William County, Henrico County, Petersburg, and Chesterfield County in Virginia. He left a lasting impression on his students, many of which he has maintained contact with over the years. Neils loved chess and shared that love with his students by starting Chess Clubs in schools in which he taught. He also loved all genres of music, but Jazz had a special place in his heart. Neils was so talented and owned many instruments. He enjoyed playing the flute, saxophone, and guitar. He always carried a flute in the car in case he happened upon a park, a beach, or river that would inspire a tune. Neils made his transition on September 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Murden; and two sisters, Meryl Murden and Karen Linette Oliver. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Charlmonique Dunn; son, Christian Dunn; brothers, Michael Murden, Daren Dunn (Joy), and Donel Dunn; sisters, Tamara Chew (Darol), Kristle Murden, Cecelia Titus, Domonique Cooper (Barry), and Zada Dunn; brother-in-law, Charlmon Lewis; sister-in-law, Charltia Lewis; devoted friend Stephen Washington (Daphne); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends.
