Neil Randolph Rutley, Sr.

Neil R. Rutley,after courageously fighting many health challenges for over sixteen years,was called home by his heavenly Father on May 17,2012. Neil was a native of James City County(Toano),Virginia. He was the oldest of eight children born to the late Laura Rutley. He was born on May 12,1941 to the late Laura E. Rutley Dandridge and the late David R. Wallace. He was also preceded in death by a son,Neil R. Rutley,Jr. and his step-father,Frank E. Dandridge,Sr. He was educated in the Richmond Public Schools system. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Thirty-First Street Baptist Church. where we served as a trustee and remained faithful to his church until his health began to fail. He worked for Southern Bank,which later became Jefferson National Bank,with 40 years of dedicated service. He leaves to mourn but to cherish his memories and legacy of love,his children:Michelle R. Thompson(Harry) and Darryl L. Rutley(Leslie);the mother of his children;Gwendolyn W. Rutley;three sisters,Shirley S. Harris(Robert),Toano,VA.,Jacquelyn D. Randall(James A.) Newport News,VA.; and Mary Arlette Dandridge,Richmond,VA.,Richmond,VA;five brothers;Frank E. Dandridge,Jr.(Deborah),Williamsburg,VA.,Alonzo R. Dandridge(Alberta),Midlothian,VA.,Nolan S. Dandridge,Suffolk,VA.,Bernard R. Dandridge(Cynthia),Toano,VA., and Kennard R. Dandridge(Shelia),Newport News,VA.,five grandchildren: Jordan A. Rutley,Ross C. and Raven M. Thompson;Sydni M. and Jackson L. Rutley;one great-grandchild,Jaiden D. Thompson;and one aunt;Reaeaster Wallace. Neil also leaves behind a host of nieces,nephews,other relatives and friends. He was a skilled craftsman who loved to fish,fellowship with his fmily,and most of all he loved to eat. He had a smile that could capture your heart and when he laughed it sounded as if it was coming up from his toes. Neil was very suave in his dress and always had an executive flair. Even in his illness there were times you could tell that he loved to dress. He always wore a watch and jewelry up until his demise. He was proud of his children's accomplishments. He was also a proud grandfather and was well known in his community. He will truly be missed by all who loved and fellowshipped with him.
