Nathaniel McNeil S

Nathaniel "June" McNeil Sr. was born on November 26th, 1932, in Charleston, South Carolina to the late William and Alifaire McNeil. He departed this life on December 8th, 2023, after encountering a short illness. June, as family and close friends would call him, attended grade school at Jennie Moore Elementary in the South Carolina Public School System. He left school to support his family by working on the farm. During his adolescence, about 18 years old, he left the farm to move to Baltimore, MD. He began his career as a semi truck driver working at Sears Roebuck. June was the life of the party. His house was often known as the after-hour spot as he loved entertaining family and friend. One thing he was very well known for at that time was his dancing an humorous personality. During his later adulthood, he met the love of his life, Christine "Chris" Ford. They solidified their union in marriage on March 2nd, 1963. Soon after they welcomed their son, Nathaniel McNeil Jr., and two daughters Darlene an Angela McNeil. June and Chris created their beautiful family together. June was an all-around great person and kindred soul. He enjoyed many things life had to offer. He really taught many people he encountered the importance of living self-sufficiently. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies and gardening his own fruits and vegetables. He was a very wise man. One of his other nicknames were "High Roller" due to his luckiness while playing slots an gambling. In 1997, they suffered the loss of their eldest daughter Darlene, after a lengthily illness. During this time, June and Chris embarked on a new journey as adopted parents of two of their granddaughters Chante and Keyona. June retired form Sears Roebuck and became a full-time father and grandfather all over again which he did like no other. He was the jack of all trades. There was not a thing he could not do. He was the head chef of the family, cooking for relatives near and far. Two of his most famous meals were his seafood nights where everyone enjoyed his shrimp fried rice and fried fish as well as his soul food nights with neck bones, rice and cabbage. Although retired, June still had a lot of goals, ambitions, and determination. He and Chris became entrepreneurs by creating their own Trucking business, C McNeil Trucking LLC. June loved their red truck and was very proud. He also supported Chris in her Chris Child Care, LLC. business by transporting participants. June always did what he could to help. June, who was also known as "Dada", was the best father and grandfather any child could ask for. He was always present and positive. He did not miss any games, recitals, birthdays, graduations etc. He even made sure they made it to each event safely by transporting them and their friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter Darlene McNeil; grandson, Dustin McNeil; two sisters, Claire Gillard and Marie McGinnis; Two brothers, Richard McNeil and Jimmy McNeil. June leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Christine McNeil; son, Nathaniel McNeil Jr,; daughter, Angela McNeil; two adopted daughters/granddaughters; Chante McNeil and Keyona Wright (Larry Wright Jr.); Christine McNeil, Marisha Williams, Taliyah McNeil and Neeqwa Watkins; one grandson, Nathaniel McNeil III; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ella Peoples, Louise Manigault, Annabelle Bradley (Adam Bradley) and Vivian Watkins (Jerome Watkins); one brother, Joseph McNeil (Sharyl McNeil); his Belvieu Avenue family; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
