NAOMI ELIZABETH (BOYCE)CATER was the fifth child born on February 10, 1929 to the union of Donald and Wilhelmina Boyce in Baltimore, Maryland. As the baby girl of her family, she was loved dearly by her parents and siblings. Naomi wore her crown eloquently as the last living matriarch of her family. However, on December 7, 2007 while resting peacefully in her bed, she heard God call and slipped away to her heavenly home.Naomi "Nana" as she was affectionately called was educated in Baltimore City Public schools. She was a proud graduated of Dunbar High School's class of 1948.Accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age, Nana was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. She loved to talk about the times when her parents would encourage her to play the piano for concerts and Christmas program at church. She continued to play the keyboard and entertain family members throughout her life. While skillfully playing the keyboard, Nana would have her grandchildren sing" I Got Two Wings To Fly Away."Naomi was employed by Londontown Manufacturing Company (London Fog) until she retired in June 1991. She met many of her lifelong friends while employed at Londontown.The highlights of Nana's life was when she gave birth to her two precious sons. Ronald Boyce who was born on her birthday (February 10th) and Thomas Dawkins, Jr. They were the "apple of her eye" and second to none. Anther proud and happy moment for Nana was her marriage to the late Lawrence Carter.Nana was very generous and loving person who always put her family first. She had an infectious personality and was loved instantly by all those she met. She was a true ambassador for God. Hid love was always demonstrated through her. Everyone she met was her "Babycake." And, she was everyone's Nana. She was loved by the young and the old, the strong and the weak, important folks and the average person. "Nana was love!"Her favorite past times were enjoying tea parties with her daughter-in-law, Joyce; working hard every day at her her new jobs after retirement (completing crossword puzzles and watching the soap operas). Her favorite hobby was traveling. Nana's travels took her all over the world. Recently, one of Nana's wishes was granted when she traveled to her family's homeland of Barbados to meet family members she had never seen. What a wonderful reunion! She was an avid photographer wand loved showing off her pictures of her family and sight began to fail her. But she never stopped loving the game and cheering on other bowlers. She absolutely loved playing backgammon and would have ongoing championships with her challengers. Her favorite food was "crabs" her family and the company of her special friends: Wilma, Goldie, Alice, Angie, Velva, Ann and Gloria (GB). She always enjoyed the company of her niece June, and she loved to spend times at the homes of her nieces Montez, Danette, Denise and Janetta.Nana was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Wilhelmina Boyce; two brothers MacDonald and John Boyce; her two sisters Sylvia Woods and Winefred Hudson. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons Ronald Boyce (Jeannetta) and Thomas Dawkins Jr. (Joyce); two stepbrothers Paul and Walter Purviance; six grandchildren Raquel Boyce, Ronald Boyce Jr., (Mary), Tyrese Trabeisi, Ebony Russaw (Bryan), Rodney Boyce Jr., and Vincent Dawkins; seven great grandchildren DeRon Boyce, Jordan Merritt, Jazmyn Boyce, Alexhandria Boyce, Ahdrianna Boyce, Kendal Russaw and Sidney Russaw and host a of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many other relatives and many, many friends.
