Myrtle Pauline Brooks

Myrtle Pauline Brooks was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on April 28, 1916. She was the youngest of three daughters born to the late George N. Thigpen and the late Nellie Bryant Thigpen. She departed this life suddenly on April 23, 2002 at Hammonds Lane Center Nursing Home.She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She met and married Herman R. Brooks on November 15, 1931 in Baltimore, Md., and from that union came six sons; Herman, Carl, Kenneth, John, Wayne and Craig. Herman and Myrtle were married 62 loving years. Myrtle worked hard all of her life in the clothing industry to provide a good work ethic and support for her family until she retired. She was a member of Mt. Winans United Methodist Church while living in Mt. Winans and later joined Christ Edmondson United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member until death. She worked on numerous committees in the church and offered her services wherever needed.She loved to cook, read, and debate current issues with her family and friends. She was very active in community organizations, politics and the Parent Teachers Association. While her sons were young she coached them in little league baseball, and she affectionately continued to introduce them by the order of their birth.Myrtle was extremely proud of her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. The memory of her life shall be remembered by: her six sons, Herman, Carl, Kenneth, John, Wayne and Craig; her sister, Mildred Brooks; step daughter, Arden Brooks Epps (deceased); daughter-in-laws, Pamela, Terry, Myrna, Penny, Bernadette, and Linda; her sister-in-law, Audrey Taylor and brother-in-law Edsel Brooks; twenty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.WHEN I MUST LEAVE YOUWhen I must leave you for a little while,Please do not grieve and shed wild tearsAnd hug your sorrow to you through the years,But start out bravely, with a gallant smile;And for my sake, and in my nameLive on and do all things the same,Feed not your loneliness on empty daysBut fill each waking hour in useful ways;Reach out your hand in comfort and cheerAnd I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;And never, never, be afraid to die,For I am waiting for you in the sky!Lovingly and Devotedly The Family
