Myrtle Gertrude Brown

Our beloved Myrtle Gwathmey Brown,affectionately known as Trudy,was called to enternal rest Tuesday,November 24,2009 at Memorial Regional Medical Center. Trudy was born December 7, 1949 into the loving arms of Burnette Gwathmey and the late Harden E.Gwathmey,Sr. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at St. Paul's Baptist Church,King William,Virginia. Trudy attended King William County Schools,graduating from Hamilton Holmes High School in 1967. Following graduation,Trudy attended Virginia State University and received her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology in 1972. In 1983,she received her Masters of Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.On April 21, 1973,Trudy married the love of her life,Fred D. Brown. They made their home in King William County for over thirty years. To this blessed union was born two children;Frederic"Ricky" and Tiffani.Trudy worked for the Disability Determination Services Agency in Richmond,Virginia until 1977. In 1978,she joined King William County Public Schools where she taught Special Education. She retired in 2008,after thirty years of faithful service.Trudy served in many capacities within her church and community. She was a dedicated Deaconess,Vacation Bible School Director and church clerk of St. Paul Baptist Church. Trudy served as the Secretary for the VFW Post 9501 Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sority,Inc. She resently became a member of the Virginia Retired Teachers Association.Trudy's passing leaves a void for thise whom she loved and cherish.Her memories will be eternally treasured by her loving and devoted husband,Fred Brown;daughter,Tiffani Nash(Troy)of Aylett,VA.;son Ricky Brown(Betty)of Philadelphia,TN. abd step-son,Duane Cannon of St. Petersburg,FL.;mother E.Burnette Gwathmey of Aylette,Va.;brother Eugene Gwathmey(Patricia)of Lynchburg;grandchildren,Kayla Brown,Madalynne Brown,Ramon"RJ" Reaves,Sydney Nash and Janae Cannon;two sisters-in-law,Rose Adams(Randy)of Richmond,Va.,and Robinette Perry of Henderson,NC. She will be fondly remembered by her loving aunts,Elizabeth McAllister,Jeanette Branic and Essie Gwathmey,all of Aylett,VA.,Verna Brown of Harrisburg,PA.,LaVerne Gwathmey of Hanover,VA.uncle Kermit Gwathmey(Frances)of Aylett,Va.;two devoted friends,Carolyn Vessels of Aylett,Va.,and Brenda Lee of King and Queen,VA. Her loving memory will also live on with her nieces,nephews,relatives and friends.
