Myrtis L. Coleman

Myrtis Lee Coleman, daughter of the late Leroy and Ernestine Coleman, was born on April 8, 1943. Affectionately called “Murt” by her family and friends. Myrtis was the second oldest child born of eight children in a loving, Christian family atmosphere. Myrtis Lee Coleman, seventy-nine years old of Baltimore, Maryland passed away after a lengthy illnes, surrounded by family and loved ones on May 4, 2022. As a native of Baltimore , Myrtis was raised and educated in the Baltimore City Public School Sstem. Myrtis graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. After graduating from High School, Myrtis worked for various retail companies until she began her career with the State of Maryland. For twenty-five years she worked for thea Department of Human Resources at various locations, including Morgan State University. During her employment, she received many service and training awards including the Governor's Volunteer Service Certificate given by the State of Maryland. Myrtis was certainly a community activist and a paticipant of the Stadium Place Council. Myrtis was a loving mother to her four children Tammy Mayotte, Douglas Barnes, Harvey Barnes, and Darryl Barnes. Myrtis was passionate about her family. Out family would not be where we are today, had it not been for Myrtis ' love and dedication. She was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan, enjoyed friends cooking, reading, and music. Myrtis accepted Christ as her Savior at an early , at the Nazarene Baptist Church. She became a loyal and faithful member of thr Garden of Prayer Christian Church. In 2010, under the leadership of the Late Melvin B. Tuggle II As a member of the Senior choir, she used her gifted soprano voice to lead “Oh Holy Night” and “The Lord's Prayer”. She served the church faithfully until her health began to decline. Myrtis loved her Pastor, Rev. Brenda M. Tuggle, and her Garden of Prayer Church family. She wil be greatly missed. Myrtis was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Ernestine Coleman, four brothers, Leroy Coleman, Gary Coleman, William Coleman, and Ernestine Coleman , and grandson, Dominick Barnes. She is survived by her four children Tammy Mayotte, Douglas Barnes, Harvey Barnes and Daryl Barnes; Three grandchildrn, Derek Barnes, Harvey Barnes Jr., and Kye Barnes; 5 great-grandchilren, Mia Barnes, Derek Barnes Jr., Ayden Barnes, Amiyah Barnes., and Nyasia Barnes; three sisters, Christine E. Conyers, Shirly D. Cousin and Deborah B. Coleman.; brother-in-law David Cousin; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives, friends, and neighbors.
