Muriel Gibson

MURIEL GIBSON was born on April 14, 1927 and departed this life on August 21, 2011. she was the youngest child of Charity Payne Gregory and William Gregory. Her older brother Joseph Payne and John Payne are deceased. Muriel grew up and lived in East Baltimore. She was educated in public schools in her east Baltimore neighborhood and went to Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. Muriel was raised I a God- fearing home and attended the neighborhood Pentecostal church every Sunday from morning until late into the night. Muriel proclaimed Jesus as her personal Savior and Redeemer as a young girl and was baptized at fourteen years old. When her family joined the Highway Holiness Church in East Baltimore, she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized again at the age of eighteen by Elder C.W. Owens. Her marriage to the late Clarence Brown ended in divorce. However, two children were born from this union: daughter, Muriel Darlene Brown ( known as “Twinkles”) and son, Clarence Samuel Brown. Clarence Samuel died as an infant; and her daughter “ Twinkles” died in December of 1998. In 1976, Muriel met Christon Gibson. After a six -month courtship, they married on December 3, 1976 Chris was faithful and devoted to his “Miss G.” Their union listed twenty-eight years until his sudden illness and death in December. Muriel Gibson started full-time employment at an early age. Her forty-seven year work career began at the Meadow Gold Ice cream Company when she was sixteen years old. She then found work at the Comfort Springs Mattress Company and remained there fifteen years before accepting a position with Maryland State Government at Mount Wilson State Hospital in 1959. When Mount Wilson closed 1977, Muriel's state government service was transferred to Spring Grove State Hospital in Catonsville. She remained at Spring Grove until her retirement in 1990 after thirty-one years of dedicated service with state government. Muriel Gibson lived a full life. Muriel was independent woman with a sassy and vibrant spirit and an equally sassy sense of style. She had a picture-perfect smile, a cheerful disposition, a quick wit and a great sense of humor. Left to cherish the memory of Muriel Gibson are: nephew, Joseph Payne and his wife, Lizzie and their children , Joseph, Glenn, Sandy and Carmen; nieces, Toni Ware and her daughter, Rasheena Ware and Robin Wren; nephew, Craig Wren; sister-in-law, Mildred Payne; nieces, Nina Hawkins and husband, Sam and daughter, Linnea Johnson: Alicia Richardson and her husband, Donnie and children, Troy Richardson and Carol Richardson: Wanda Taylor and her son, Taylor Griffin: the children of her late niece, Colleen Russell, Kevin Hopson, Jacqueline and Quinn Hopson; devoted goddaughter, Nettie Vincent; and devoted friends, Susie Winfield and Harold Duppens; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
