Mozelle Hicks Burt

Mozelle Hicks Burt was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 10, 1939 to the late Leslie Hicks Sr. and Irene Hicks. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, George, Leslie Jr. and William Hicks. She entered into eternal rest at her home in Varina on August 1, 2017 after a courageous and heroic battle with cancer. Mozelle graduated from Maggie L Walker High School in 1958. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and attended Moore Street Baptist Church. She later continued her spiritual journey and joined Resurrection Lutheran Church where she served the Lord for many years. On February 17, 1962, she was joined in holy matrimony to Edward Burt, Sr. To this union five children were born. After raising her family, she returned to the workforce in 1995 where she was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Madison House Assisted Living facility. She retired in September 2014 due to her health. Mozelle affectionately known as “Ms. Moe”, was given the gift as a caregiver. She was a private duty caregiver for many years caring for the elderly. Her selfless spirit and love for family and friends was displayed throughout the community by her willingness to help those in need. Despite her struggles she remained a dominant force and inspired so many of us with her outlook on life and living. Moe’s personality was certain to brighten up your day along with her glorious smile. She gave love, showed faith, determination, courage, and most of all strength!. Moe enjoyed going on trips and for rides in the car. Christmas was her favorite time of year, where she enjoyed decorating her home and Christmas shopping. She especially loved doting on her grandchildren whom she adored. She did not lose her battle with cancer. She lived graciously and courageously with it until the very end. In many, many ways, by inspiring and teaching us, she won her battle in other very important ways. She was a wonderful role model right to the end. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Michael, Mark, David (Colette) and Shawn Burt; one daughter, Melody Dameron (James); four grandsons, Christian, Landin, Ryan and Quinton Burt; two granddaughters, Angel and Sierra Dameron and one great-granddaughter, Nayeli Burt; one caring sister, Delores Wilson; and a host of relatives and close friends. Moe will be remembered for her gentle, kind disposition, and all the love she has always showed her family. May the love of God be with her eternally!
