Montinei Anton Gatling

Montinei Anton Gatling, son of the late Kenneth Gatling and Barbara Avery-Toler, was born August 12, 1965, at University Hospital in Baltimore. Wednesday, October 3, 2001. Montinei quietly slipped away to eternal rest, after a short stay at harbor Hospital.At an early age, he was baptized by the late Rev. Salters Burgess, and was an active member of community Baptist Church. He was educated in the public schools of Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City Community College. For several years, he worked for a construction company, building prefabricated houses. He was also employed with PDI Shutz.The one thing he really enjoyed the most was helping others. Montinei always demonstrated a desire to help people. As the oldest of three boys, he played an active part in rearing his younger siblings, and was active in the life of many young people. He even served as a coach for a little league baseball team. He was a devoted father and had a special relationship with his son, Montinei, Jr. He spent a great deal of time attending to the special needs of Jamal, who was like a little brother to him.'Moose', as he was fondly known, was a compassionte and affectionate person with a peaceful spirit and a giving heart. He would aid you in your sickness and feed you if you were hungry. Whatever he could do to help someone he would. Moose had another nickname, and some called him "The Neighborhood Handyman", because many people throughout the community could count on him for assistance. No matter what the task, whether great or small, whatever you needed done, Moose would do it all. His presence will sorely be missed by many, for he was truly our handyman, our caregiver and our friend.He leaves to cherish fond memories, his son, Montinei, Jr.; his mother, Babara; step-father, Percy Toler III; brothers, Dante, Mark and Jamal; aunts and uncles, Ruth Johnson, Wilma Young (David), Bernice Hodges, William, John (Audrey), Dr. James Avery, Larry (Dannie), Ethel and Leroy Savage of Baltimore, Rosa Carr, Ruth Hill, Joyce Ann and Alice of Suffolk, Virginia; special close friends, Bernice Hodges, Harold Pinkney and cousin Darryl; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear friends.
