Montel Davenport

After a long and difficult battle with dementia, Montel Davenport took his journey home. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: And not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8 It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Montel Davenport, who departed this life peacefully on November 29, 2025. Montel was born on December 30, 1965, in Richmond, Virginia, to Christine and the late Linwood Davenport, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother, Linwood Davenport, Jr. Montel completed his K–12 education and earned his high school diploma. A pivotal moment in his life came in March of 2018, at the age of 52, when he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with Speaking Spirit Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Fred Wyatt. Montel built a distinguished career with Henrico County Public Schools in the Construction and Maintenance Division. For ten years, he proudly served as an Equipment Operator 2, known for his reliability and skill. Before his passing, he worked as a Labor Foreman III, retiring in 2021 after 20 years of dedicated service. Montel was a man who embraced life with joy and warmth. He loved cooking delicious meals, listening to music, dancing, gardening, and spending cherished time with his family. Monday and Friday nights were reserved for watching wrestling—always with a bowl of homemade popcorn. His laughter was infectious, his presence uplifting, and he had a remarkable gift for bringing humor to any room he entered. He loved reading his Bible and spending alone time with God. Montel was the kind of man who would give anyone the shirt off his back. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted long-term partner, Donella Rowe, and his children: Danielle Jordan, Moneshia Robinson-Davenport, Jassmine Jordan, Keishawna Rowe, Montaeja Rowe, and Taymon Rowe; adored granddaughter, Skylar Rowe; mother, Christine Davenport; siblings, Deborah Davenport, David Davenport, Linda Davenport, Cheryl Parker, and Keith Davenport; nieces, Felicia Davenport, DeeDee Davenport Madison, Chenika Mills, Shannon Parker, Emily Parker, Erica Davenport, and Crystal Davenport; nephew, Michael Davenport; a host of great-nephews, a great-niece, extended relatives; many beloved friends and neighbors, including James Stevenson, the C&M Staff, George Moody, and Rick Moore. Montel’s life was a testament to love, loyalty, and generosity. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
