Minnie Lemon

Legacy of Minnie Lemon None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:7-8 Minnie Lemon, was born September 5, 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana. She was called home to God’s pearly gates, March 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mandy Anderson and two daughters, Danette Cobb and Mary M. Smith Jones. At an early age, Minnie accepted her Lord and Savior and was united with Cherry Hill Baptist Church #2 in MerRouge, Louisiana. There she served in various ministries before relocating to Oakland, California at which time she joined Star Bethel Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor George Henderson and the late Pastor Edward J. Boyd. She worked in various ministries; Mission Chorus, Adult Choir, Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, Women’s Mission and Bible Study. Later, during her Christian Journey, she was led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the East Oakland Deliverance Center under the leadership of Apostle Bishop Ray Mack, where she served faithfully for more than 15 years until her health began to fail in late 2011, still she pressed on. Minnie served faithfully in the Prayer Circle, Pastors Aid, Bible Study and numerous other ministries. She was looked up to and respected in high regard as a Servant of God. The youth and young adults called her Mother Lemon. Minnie enjoyed going to prayer, then visiting the Dollar Store and spending time with family and friends. She loved her children and did all she could to encourage, point them to and get them to accept Christ as their personal Savior. A hard worker during her adult life, Minnie held employment with: Stones Laundry, Alameda Hospital, Alta Bates Hospital and the Berkeley Police Department Traffic Division. She retired from the last two. She will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered as a Godly Christian woman, an upbeat people person full of life and love. We were so fortunate and blessed to have crossed paths and to have had her in our lives. We feel empty without her, but God has SPOKEN. Minnie leaves to cherish her precious memory five devoted sons, Percy Payne (Clarice Schwarck), Hosey Fisher (Doretha Tyson), Van Maurice Smith, Herbert Hudson and Pastor Oliver Hudson; two daughters, Ellen J. Randolph and Martha Sloan; 13 grandchildren, Kay Payne, Toshombia J. Jones, Malik U. Smith, David C. Jones, Charles E. Jones, Derraul Washington, Sharrelle Oliver, Van Smith, Marcus Oliver, Christopher Brown, Abasi Smith, Celico Davis and Dawanna Thomas; 25 great-grandchildren; one caring brother, Napoleon Dumas; and a host of other relatives, friends and her best friend, Ann. She may no longer be with us physically, just remember that she will always be with us in both spirit and memory.
