Minnie Louise Holmes

On August 30, 2012 during the quiet of the morning, God ushered MINNIE LOUISE HOLMES home to live in glory. She was born on June 21, 1925 in Hartsville, South Carolina to the late Fronzalee Segars Booker and Frank Capers. She was educated in the South Carolina Public School System and later was employed as a cafeteria worker in Hartsville High School. Minnie was introduced to the love of her life, the late Isaiah Holmes by her cousin, Eloise Holmes. From their union, they were blessed with three girls while they still resided in South Carolina. In 1955 they moved to Baltimore, Maryland to seek better employment opportunities. Three years later, they were blessed with a son. Minnie was the matriarch of the Holmes family and was a great influence on the family’s lives. She could often be found in her favorite room of the house, the kitchen, cooking up delectable and delicious meals. She received great joy from seeing her family united together and enjoying good food and great conversation. Whether it was her famous Friday fish fry, Sunday dinners or holiday gatherings; her zeal for cooking blessed not only her immediate family but many others. In 1958, she along with her husband, joined Eastern United Methodist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Calvin P. Crosson. Like her husband, she shared a love for music which motivated her to become an alto in Eastern UMC’s Sanctuary Choir. Along with becoming a choir member, she served in many ministries at the church and enjoyed the many friendships she acquired there. Minnie’s love of cooking led her to become a member of Eastern’s Soup Kitchen Ministry where it warmed her heart to serve others in need. Minnie was preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty-four years, Isaiah Holmes and her daughter, Izetta G. Holmes. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Lunetta Holmes Redd and Deanna Page (David Jr.); one son, Darrell L. Holmes (Monica); her granddaughter, whom she raised as her own daughter, Shawn H. Barber (Roderick); eleven additional grandchildren, Tonya, Tiffany, Aurelius, Angela (Ron), Ernest III, Isaiah Sr. (Amali), Isaac (Alika), Devon, Alysha, Nicholas Sr. and Lauren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Eular Chavis, Bertina Holmes and Gwendolyn Banks; two godchildren, Sandra Holmes and Aundre Holmes; and a host of other relatives and friends. Minnie was admired and loved by many and will be sincerely missed. She cherished her husband, adored her family but most of all loved the Lord.
