Mildred Sanders

Mildred Sanders, daughter of the late Robert Raymond Banks and Ophelia Cecila Mack and sister of Jacqueline Mealy, Delores Mack and the late Alice McSwain, Richard Mack and William Donoway, was born on October 12,1934 in Baltimore, Maryland. She succumbed to this life on May 16, 2026. Mildred grew up in West Baltimore in the 1100 block of Argyle Avenue and was raised by her mother. Mildred received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Mildred went to elementary school #103 at 1315 Division Street. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School at 1601 N. Calhoun Street. Mildred enjoyed reading books, newspapers, magazines, clothes shopping and dressing up to go out to the movie theater. She liked listening to sound tracks from Broadway plays such as Thoroughly Modern Millie and Fiddler on the Roof. Mildred loved going to New York on the train with her sister Alice every year to shop and take in a Broadway play. Mildred met Archie Edwin Wilburn at Aberdeen Proving Ground Military base around 1952. She married Archie and from that union Deborah Wilburn was born. Mildred met Charlie James Sanders in 1957. Charlie married Mildred on September 19, 1959. This union with Charlie produced five children and they remained married for 63 years until Charlie’s demise. Around 1967 Mildred started substituting at Liberty Elementary School #64 until the end of 2019. She is survived by: sisters, Jacqueline Mealy, Delores Mack; four daughters, Deborah, Valerie, Cynthia, Lynn (Jeffery Horne son-in-law); son, William, Mark (Tiffany Friend daughter-in-law); grandchildren, Shawn (Damita) Robinson, Gregory (Tiffany) Sims, Alethea Sims, Michael Shaw, Erica Sanders, Kayla (Parker) Bailey, Jeannelle (Lonnie) Byrd, Alvin McSwain, Jerome Horne, Benjamin Horne and Kayla Horne; great-grandchildren, Nattie Robinson, Michael Robinson, Layla Sims, Lauryn Sims, Kai Bailey, Ari Bailey, Lonnie Byrd and Lathan Byrd; nieces, Tanisha Mack and Christine McSwain; nephews, Nathaniel Garvins and Garnet Mealy; great-niece Kristen Bryant; great nephews, William Davis, William Butler and Tyrell Mack; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
