Mildred Hubbard

Mildred Hubbard was born on June 3, 1934, in Nathalie, Virginia, to the late Johnny Mack Boyd and Elizabeth Boyd. She peacefully departed this life on March 12, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland, and went home to be with the Lord. On May 23, 1959, Mildred married the late Joseph Hubbard, and together they shared sixty-six loving years and were blessed with a devoted son, Jeffrey Hubbard. Mildred was educated in the Halifax County School System and was lovingly known as “M.E.” to her family. She was a kind, caring, compassionate, and generous woman who was always willing to share and help others. At an early age she joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Halifax County, Virginia. Her faith was strong from a young age, and she remained devoted to serving the Lord throughout her life. Mildred dedicated 44 years of service to St. Agnes Hospital, where she worked as a nursing technician in the SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit). She cared for patients with great skill, compassion, and dedication, and was affectionately known as “Millie” by her coworkers. Caring for others was not just her profession, but her passion. She was a faithful member of Christian Community Church of God for many years. She served as a leader in the Health and Healing Ministry alongside Sister Mary Kellam, and as a member of the Crochet Ministry under the direction of Sister Cecilia Edwards. Mildred loved her church family dearly. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles and her favorite soap operas, often sharing those moments in daily conversations with family and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her four sisters, Betty Terry, Lee Ethel Hill, Bessie Scott, and Mary Ellen Garner; three brothers, Arthur Boyd, Hubert Boyd, and Robert Boyd; five nieces, Donna Garner, Rose Marie Boyd, Emma Jean Boyd, Mary Boyd, and Dollie May Jones; five nephews, Ricky Garner, Garrett Hubbard, John Ivory (“Spankie”) Garner, Roy Garner, and Danney Lee Garner; four brothers-in-law, Henry Terry, Roosevelt (“Val”) Garner, Leon (“Bobby”) Hill, and Jordan Hubbard; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Cornelia Snowden. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Jeffrey Hubbard; three granddaughters, Kayla Hubbard, Jaleyah Hubbard, and Brinley Hubbard, who brought great joy to her life; two sisters, Jerlean Hubbard of Nathalie, VA, and Gracie (James Willie) Boyd of Nathalie, VA; two brothers-in-law, John Lee Hubbard of Nathalie, VA, and David Scott of Nathalie, VA; seven nieces, Janet Graves, Brenda Hubbard, Luwanda Turner, Felicia (“Lisa”) Boyd, Carlean Terry, Venus (“Bean”) Henderson, and Queen Bates; three nephews, James Chris Boyd, Steven Boyd, and Bruce Terry; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. She also shared a special bond with her dear friend Barbara Fewell, her nieces, Laura Richardson and Barbara Burrell, and her grand-fur baby, Daisy. Mildred will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering care for others. She will be deeply missed.
