Michael Grandison-El

We honor and celebrate Sheik Michael S. Grandison-El as a brother, husband, father, grandfather,cousin, uncle, friend, colleague, and mentor who lived his life with peace and love, gave generously, counseled wisely, and smiled brightly. Sheik Grandison-El was born in Mobile, AL on June 26, 1954 to parents Henderson Grandison and Cibby Grandison and transitioned on September 7, 2019. While in Alabama, Sheik Grandison-El attended a Lutherean private school before moving to Baltimore in 1958 to later graduate from Edmonson High School. His passion for health and wellness led him to a program at the City College of Baltimore where he obtained his Associates in Arts Degree in Culinary Arts. Thereafter, he worked at Sinai Hospital as a Dietary Cook for six years before he pursued an affinity for rules and order within his field. After 28 years of working as a Correctional Officer with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services in Jessup, MD, Michael retired in December 2918. An avid tennis player, you would find Michael playing tennis, talking about tennis, or winning tennis matches. As the older brother to his sister Shirley, she once insisted he teach her to play tennis until he ran her around the court so long that she could no longer control her breathing. He laughed hysterically even after she threw her tennis ratchet down and left the court. Michael's quest for "Truth" became a reality manifested in 1989 upon his joining the Moorish Science Temple of America and being Nationalized. As a proclaimed Moorish American Brother Grandison-El faithfully attended his meetings and compliled a tape collection absent none of the radio show "The Light" aired on Morgan State University radio WEAA 88.9 FM. Bro. Grandison-EL was studious, focused and committed to the cause of Uplifting Fallen Humanity. Having high regards for his Instructor Sheikess Seabreeze-Bey, Bro. Grandison-EL elevated via his studies in Moorish Science. He was also honored to have slept over night at the home of Grand Sheik Richardson Dingle-El, Reincarnated Prophet Noble Drew Ali III. As an avid reader, you could find Michael Telling all who would listen, "Mo, you got to know who you are." Others thought he was either a professor just someone who enjoyed spreading the word of Allah. The Transformation was complete as Bro. Grandison-EL earned his Sheik degree. Sheik Grandison-El leaves to cherish his wife Betty-Moore-Grandison-El, daughter Tanya Grandison, son Michael S. Grandison-El Jr., grandson Taiwan S. Grandison-El, brother Gene Chestnut, sister-Shirley Grandison, his nieces and nephews, his devoted cousins, other relatives and friends.
