Michael Edward Edmondson Sr.

MICHAEL EDWARD EDMONDSON SR., beloved son of the late Algaruon Edmondson and the late Georgina Edmondson Dodd, step-son of the late McKinley G. Dodd, brother of Loretta Edmondson Goodman and the late Joseph Edmondson, was born on February 21, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a short illness, Michael departed this life on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was educated in the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Michael attended St. Francis of Xavier, Our Lady of Lourdes, Loyola Blakefield, and graduated in 1972 from Frederick Douglass High School, where he was a member of the ROTC. After graduating high school, Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force that September. He was stationed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Once he was discharged, he returned to Baltimore where he held a few jobs before he was hired as a locomotive engineer for Chessie System, later known as CSX. Michael loved being an engineer and took his job seriously. He operated freight trains from Baltimore to various areas in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and often times operated the train that brought the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus in town. While at CSX, he trained new engineers and was a member of the safety board. He worked at CSX for 36 years until his retirement in January 2013. Michael was blessed to meet his first wife, the late Sandra Louise (Thompson) Edmondson, and they were united in marriage on March 12,1977 in Baltimore. From this union, they were blessed with three children, Tiffany Elizabeth Edmondson Johnson, Aaron Joseph Edmondson, and the late Michael (Mikey) Edward Edmondson Jr. He lost his beloved Sandra after 36 years of marriage. He was able to find love again, when he met and later married his second wife Joann Mary (Burton) Edmondson. They enjoyed retirement together, traveled, and later moved to Bel Air, Maryland where they met new friends and enjoyed participating in the resident’s activities. They were married until his dear Jo suddenly passed away in October 2020. Michael enjoyed fishing, building and programming computers, playing chess, games on his phones, listening to music, politics, watching movies, crossword puzzles, wood carving, and being a gun enthusiast. He was a member of the NRA and the Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club. Poppie, as he was affectionately called by his grand and greatgrandchildren, enjoyed taking them fishing, camping, to the gun range, and cooking for them. They were the joy of his life. Michael is survived by his daughter, Tiffany; his son, Aaron; his sister, Loretta Goodman; eight grandchildren, Ashley Jackson, Ta’shera Edmondson, Jalen Johnson, Jada Edmondson, Deontae Edmondson, Ethan Velines-Bey, Elijah Velines-Bey, and Alix Barnes Edmondson; three great-grandchildren, Raheem Chaney, Lena Chaney, and Rahmah Cedenio; a brother-in-law, Ralph Thompson (Evelyn); three nieces, Chanell Anderson (Uries), Lynette Moultrie (Darrin), and Darien Reynolds (Michael); cousins, Sister Josita Colbert SNDdeN, Maurice Jackson (Angie), Gwendolyn Wright, and Yates Jackson; and a host of other cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
