Melvin William Johnson Sr.

Melvin William Johnson, the only son of the late Sallie Carrie Johnson and Julius Caesar Johnson was born on July 5, 1939 in Raleigh , North Carolina. He Transitioned from life to eternal life, to be with Lord on May 16, 2011. Although Melvin was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, attending Raleigh Public Schools, he moved to Baltimore , MD in 1989 after retiring from Progressive Energy . His last employment was Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Dulaney Valley, MD Melvin accepted Christ at an early age and re-dedicated his life to Christ in his adult life. On November 22, 1956 , Melvin married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Thomas and from this union , 5 children were born, Lamont , Debbie, Ira,Lafayette, and Clea. Melvin's parents and his sister Amanda J. Hinton, preceded him in death. Melvin was always active and let nothing or no one slow him down. His passion of all times was fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards shooting pool , baking, and hosting bar-b-ques. Melvin was friendly person and would go out of his way to do what he could for others. He made friends wherever he went . You could not be in the room and remain quiet, Melvin would definitely spark up conversation or pick at you to make you smile and laugh. Often times, he was known as the jokester. Melvin had great artistic gift of freelance sketching. Melvin leaves memories to; his only daughter, Debbie McClain; 5 sons, Lamont, Ira Lafayette, Clea and Melvin Jr, all of North Carolina; 22 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren; a devoted sister, Liza Baker of Baltimore, MD and a supportive brother-in-law, Hubert Baker, Jr. of Baltimore, MD 3 nieces,Sandra Baker, Denise Vance and Tracy Baker all of Baltimore, MD 4 nephews; Andre Johnson of Norfolk, VA , Larry Baker of Beltsville, MD, Ronnie Baker , Sr of Woodlawn, MD , and Bruce Baker of Baltimore, MD, 3 great nieces, 4 great nephews and 2 great-great nephews all of Baltimore, MD cousins; William “Billy” Johnson North Carolina, Rebecca Rowe of North Carolina, Eugene Turnerof Ben Salem, PA and Cathy Rousseau of Las Vegas, Nevada, a devoted friend Ida Archer and a host of friends from everywhere, especially the Wyman House and Future Care Nursing Home.
