Mattie G Able

MRS. MATTIE GERTRUDE ABLE, last surviving of eleven children born to Charlie and Eliza Alston, was born in Ridgeway, South Carolina on July 29,1912. She was called home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2010. She was precede in death by her husband, the late Mack Able, Jr., (May 31, 1968). They were married on December 15, 1935 and out of this union three children were born, Henry, Edith and Shirley. As a child, Mrs. Able accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed singing, crocheting, attending church, prayer and reading the bible on a daily basis until her health failed. While residing at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, she attended church service several time a week. She also enjoyed other activities offered at the center. She loved he children, in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other immediate and extended family members. She was previously employed at the Pennsylvania Train Station. She was originally a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church until she changed her family's membership to Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church, and finally to Williams Tabernacle AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Mrs. Able leaves to mourn: her three children, Henry Able (Audrey deceased) Edith Wheeler (John, deceased) and Shirley P. Barber (Willie); 7 grandchildren, Darryl Wheeler, Piper Dunston (Hugo, deceased), Gary Wheeler, Charlie Able (Andrea), Gerard Able (Novella), Noel Barber (Katherine) and Myles Barber (Shante'); 13 great-grandchildren: Monica Dunston, Ryan Dunston, Gary Wheeler, Jr., Jahmel Wheeler, Khalil Wheeler, Darius Able, Devin Able, Marqia Able, Jasmine Able, Amyhr Barber, Jayde Barber, Noah Barber and Nazaiah Barber; and great-great-grandchildren, Randy Dunston, Mircal Dunston and Ryan Dunston, Jr.; sister-in-law, Henrietta Alston; nieces, Alma Covington (William), Michelle Covington, Eliza Evans (Edward), Jesse Lee Pendelton, Peggy Bell (Charles), Juanita Green (Sam), Margaret Alston, Mozell Alston and Maragrette Johnson; nephew, George McCorkle (Olivia), Secless Henderson, Gerome Alston (Reba), Frank Alston (Lillian) and Pete Alston, and a host of other relatives and friends. After each visit with her in the nursing facility, Mrs. Able would always encourage her family members to be loving and kind to each other and drive carefully. We thank God for her and she will truly be missed by her family but we know we will see her again in Heaven. To God be the glory!!!!!
