Mathew Williams

Matthew “Buddy” Williams, the second eldest son of the late Leroy Williams Sr. and Connie Stokes Williams, was born on March 27, 1924 in Pitt County, North Carolina. He departed this life on September 6, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He has gone on to join his siblings: Jasper, Edward Earl, Leroy Jr, James Allen, and Lavonzo Williams,Jesse Ruth Woods, Mae West McDonald and Philie Williams. Matthew received his education in Pitt County Schools and later joined the United States Army. He proudly served as a Corporal during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he became part owner of a restaurant with his brother. He later moved to Washington, D.C, and became a truck driver.He later moved to Baltimore where he was employed with several companies but worked at the Quick Car Wash as a Car Detailer for many years, until his health began to fail him. Buddy or Mae as he was affectionately known by those who knew and loved him gave his life to Christ in the recent years . He would often speak of how good God had been to him down through the years. He had some bumps and bruises but God saw fit that he lived a long love filled life.. Uncle buddy loved to share stories of his time spent in the military traveling to many foreign countries and driving trucks from state to state. He loved to tell jokes to make you laugh and he had a way with words. He would say things like “ everything that glitters is not gold.” “ every closed eye not sleep”. “ every goodbye not gone” don’t say goodbye, say see you late or so long” just to name a few. Uncle Buddy was a strong fighter even until the very end. Even in his sickness if you asked him how he was feeling the reply was always the same doing the best I can baby”. He leaves to cherish his memories his dear and loving sister-in-law Gardenia Williams, of Baltimore, Maryland, nephews James woods (Ann), Bobby Williams(Eugenia), Travis Woods(Janet), Larry Williams, Leroy Williams III, Johnathan Woods, Michael Woods (Ramona), nieces Mammie Holmes, Marion Evans, Connie Nickelson, Caroline Smith( Henry) Gwendolyn Bell (Mitchell), Diane Williams Payton(James), Angie Williams, La'tanya Noble, Marvel McCray(Willie), Michelle Coard( Sonny), Theresa Williams, Marlene Williams Berry (Anthony). Special cousins Bud Chapman and Delores Williams. A host of great and great,great nieces, nephews relatives and friends. A childhood friend Ms. Clemy McCarter.
