Mason McGilvary Sr.

A warrior was called home. Our beloved Mason McGilvary, Sr. slipped into a silent sleep surrounded by his loved ones, joining his heavenly father and spiritual family members on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Mason McGilvary, Sr., was born in West Point, VA to the late Walter and Willie Mae McGilvary on December 10, 1929. Mason was a very "superior" man who stood grounds for his family, taking care of his children, grandchildren and most extended family. He attended West Point Public Schools. He gave his life to Christ as a young child. He was employed at VF Lanasa, Inc., Produce Wholesaler for over 50 years. He retired in 1996 to only continue working part time for several more years, until deciding to give up working and devote more time to his family. To know Mason was to truly love him, he was the type of person who will give the shirt off his back to anyone he knew or just met. No one was a stranger to Mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and just enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, just talking and kicking back. He was a die hard Red Skins fan. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. Mason will definitely be missed. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Willie Mae and Walter McGilvary, three brothers, Nathaniel Sr., Willie Ward and Walter McGilvary, Jr., one sister, LaVenia Jennings, his first son, Hoza Harris and one daughter, Belinda A. Whitaker. Mason is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 46 years, Mrs.Iris McGilvary; three sons, Richard Anderson (Shirley), Tommy Anderson, Mason McGilvary, Jr. (Toni Rollover); one daughter, Ronniece Winfree; grandchildren, Richard Anderson, Jr. (Felicia), Takelia Richards (Oral), Jason Anderson, Daquan Baker, Jershawnda Richardson, Kabria Miller, Alise Burrell and one devoted great grandson, Kennsel Anderson and other great grandchildren; three brothers, Hugh (Edna), Monroe (Alta) & Robert Lee McGilvary; three sisters, Jean Bellamy (Tom), Janet Green and devoted, Martha Johnson; three devoted nieces, Patricia Faulkcon (Danny), Theresa Jennings, Denise Scott; two sisters-in law, Celestine Gaines and Daisy Kirven; one brother-in-law, Ira Lewis; and a host of other nieces, nephews and extended family members.
