Mary L. Walker

Mary Lou Walker was born to the late Charles and Mary Flowers on July 21, 1949. Mary departed her earthly home on November 16, 2015 after a brief illness. Now she is living in a mansion not made by man, and walking streets of gold. Mary was affectionately called “Marylou”, “Monk” or “Big Mommy” by her family and friends. Mary was always full of grace, class, wisdom and love. She believed in being a model citizen and taught everyone else to help others. Marylou received Christ at an early age. She and her family were members of Bethel A.M.E. Church Marylou was a graduate of Western High School. She also graduated from Coppin State College where she earned her Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in education. Mary always worked with excellence and dedication. She was a teacher and guidance counselor extraordinaire with Baltimore City Public Schools for 35 years. She was also employed with the Woodbourne Treatment Center for 40 years. There she received many awards such as, Employee of the Year, Perfect Attendance Excellent Service. Marylou loved her family and would do ANYTHING for them. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, the Holiday Season, shopping at Walmart and food markets, dinning out, eating good food and working hard. Most of all, she loved her dogs and her cat. Marylou met Jerry L. Walker, Sr. whom she loved and adored and the two were married on July 2, 1979. They have been joined together for 36 years. Out of their union of love came the joys of their hearts, Lil’ Jerry and Lil’ Mary. She is joined in heaven by her parents, her brother, Charles Flowers, Jr. (Pookey), her in-laws, Violet and James Walker, and Diamond. Marylou leaves to cherish her memory and live out her legacy: her loving and devoted husband, Jerry L. Walker, Sr.; her loving children, Jerry L. Walker, Jr (Boo-Boo) and Mary L. Walker (Lil” Mary) Missy, Dyrel; her sister, Linda (Tony); sisters-in-law, Violeta (Harrison) and Joyce (Andrew); brother-in-law, Jay (Cindy); 3 grandchildren, Brandon, Emani and Jayla; 2 adopted grandchildren, Melik and Samone; 3 nephews, Tony, Jr. (TJ), Edwin, Sr. (Peanut) and Donta (Tarsha); 2 nieces, Shante’ (Marquish) and Nicole (Nikki); 3 God-children, Carenda, Lawrence and Theresa; best friend, Brenda Feaster; her pets, Nino, Ginger and Keba; caregivers, Angie, Byrd, Cee, Acquanetta and Dorothy; a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, adopted children mentees, coworkers, staff @ Mercy Hospital and Stella Maris.
