Mary Madgalene Roberts

On April 18,2012, God called one of His angels,Mary Magdalene Roberts, to receive her rest in him. Affectionately known as”Maggie”, was born the third child of the late John Wilson Sr. and Lillie Bell Wilson on September 4, 1939 in Camden,South Carolina. She accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of her life at an early age. She was baptized May 31, 1953. Received her education in Camden, South Carolina. After graduating from Jackson High School in 1958, she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Because of her love for helping and serving others,she sought employment at The Rosewood State Hospital in 1973. Inspired to complete her certification as a Licensed Practicing Nurse, Mary graduated from Provident School of Nursing in 1976. For approximately 30 years, she cared for hundreds of patients and was well-known for her extraordinary”Bed-side” manner. On October 12, 1961, she married the love of her life Roderick Everett Roberts Sr. From this blessed union four sons were born: Stephone, Roderick Jr., Reginald, and Donald. She loved her family and encouraged them to put God first in everything they do. In addition to being a wife, mother, and career woman, it gave her great pleasure to work diligently in the house of God. In the mid 1970's, She joined the New Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Harold A. Carter Sr. During her membership, she served on The Comfort Choir, The Great Choir, transportation assistant for the Saturday Church School, and Culinary Ministry. She also loved studying God's Word and attended Saturday Church School regularly. She recently joined St. Mark Institutional Baptist Church where the Reverend Reginald W. Lawrence is the Pastor to be closer to home. She was very appreciative when her Pastor, First Lady and church family would visit her at home and in the Hospital to pray and study God's Word. Mary made numerous friends during her lifetime. This virtuous woman of God often assisted her neighbors and friends by giving medical advice and accompanying them to doctor visits. She had a heart of love and compassion for all people. Aside from caring for others, she had many special hobbies. She enjoyed family gathering, traveling, shopping at consignment stores, purchasing souvenirs, and solving word searches. One of her greatest hobbies was collecting anything with ducks on them, antique telephones, and beautiful shower curtains. She had a love for interior decorating. Her pride and joy was keeping a clean home, sweeping the streets in her neighborhood, and maintaining a beautiful garden. A Time To Reflect and Remember Mary Magdalene Roberts was loved by her family, friends, and community. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 50 years Roderick Everett Roberts, four sons, Stephone, Roderick Jr. (Teresa), Reginald (Christa), and Donald; three grandchildren: Cornell, Tony, and Jessica; one great- grandchild Alyssa; three brothers; John Wilson Jr., Camden, South Carolina; Reverend Marion Wilson (Gwen), Rock Hill, South Carolina; Clarence L. Wilson (Deceased); four sister: Lula Lloyd and Clara Evans, both of Camden, South Carolina: Katie Harrison (Lucious), Baltimore, Maryland; and Shirley Watkins of Orangeburg, South Carolina; Step-sister Annie Lee Miller (deceased); Larry Lloyd (Special Nephew); Mr. William H. Jones( special family friend) and a host of nieces, great- nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
