Mary R. Lee

Mary Reed Lee, daughter of the late George G. Reed and the late Emma Reed Spencer, was born April 10, 1933 in Keysville, Virginia. Mary departed this life on January 12, 2002, after a brief illness. Mary’s early childhood was spent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she attended grade schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized June 1946 at Monumental Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Year’s later Mary and family moved to Keysville, Virginia. Mary attended and graduated in 1953, from R.R. Morton High School in Farmville, Virginia. Later that year Mary Reed met and married the late Henry William Lee on December 23, 1953 and from this union seven children were born, Larry Lee, Cheryl Blackwell, Debra Taylor, Leon Lee, Gina Lawrence, John Lee and Henry Lee. Mary was a loving, devoted and caring wife and mother, “always putting others before herself.” She leaves to cherish her memory: seven children, Larry, Cheryl, Debra, Leon, Gina, John and Henry; one brother, George Reed of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one sister, Virginia Spivey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Lewis Taylor Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Marjorie Lee; seven sisters-in-law, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends including special friends, Bertha, Fannie Mae and Elsie.MOTHERMother, God created her, so she comes from the earthWith a unique gift and that’s to give birth to the universe.Some of our Mothers are from natural birth and some are from adoption, but both are for God’s intended purpose.A Mother is warm she’s kind and gentle, and she stays on one’s mind. You will always be her baby no matter how old or grown you become.She’s strength; she’s inspiration, a total sensation. She has seen the rainstorms, the snow blizzards, the high tides and lows, “She has even seen the sunshine, from time to time.”She has the Golden African Glitter; glittering expression on her face that lets you know that no one can take her place.In times of trouble and grief, she’s a great relief.She’s so sweet; She’s my EBONY QUEEN!
