Mary M. Winston

Mother Mary M. Winston quietly, peacefully and without words, entered into eternal rest. The Angel of death came to her bedside and sweetly called her home early on Monday, September 1, 2003.Mother Mary M. Winston was born on December 3, 1914 in Durham County, North Carolina to the late Mack Alonie Smith and Pearl Taylor Smith.Mother Winston received her spiritual guidance at a very young age. She became a member of the Church of God in Christ Jesus in Anger, North Carolina. She was baptized and filled with the precious Holy Ghost.Mother Winston and the late Elder Genadeoris Winston reared seven beautiful children, the late Katie, Christine, Chestine, June, Sherman and Therman.Her formal education included Durham and Wake County Public School Systems. Mother Winston’s dream of completing her high school education was fulfilled when she graduated from the Adult Continuing Night School at Dunbar Senior High School in Baltimore, Maryland.She worked at the famous Johns Hopkins Hospital and retired from there as a technician in 1974.After moving to Baltimore, she joined the late Bishop Clarence William Wiley at New Born Church of God, and became a full pledge member. In 1991 she became a member of the True Apostolic Faith Church under the late Elder Lemuel Fuller. She worked on the following auxiliaries; Missionary Board, Assistant Pastors Aide, Prayer Board, she was the 2nd Senior Mother and Treasurer.Mother was a soft spoken, gentle person who radiated warmth and sincerity. She was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She was extremely devoted to her family and loved everyone.Mother Winston was a woman of God, who served faithfully throughout her lifetime. She was a faithful and dedicated member. Her mother qualities were recognized and were honored as Mother Mary Winston. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all that loved her.Left to cherish loving memories are: her devoted son, Thomas Smith (Jean) of Apex, NC; special devoted grandson, James Winston (Sherrae) of Owings Mills, MD; special devoted great-granddaughter, Arlene Wiley Fitzgerald (Leonard) of Suitland, MD; three brothers, Henry Smith of Matthews, VA, Edgar Smith (Rose) of Baltimore, MD and James Smith (Rosie) Camden, NJ; two sisters, Anna McCoy of Garner, NC and Mildred Diggs of Matthews, VA; uncle, Frank Smith (Ethel ) Durham, NC; brother-in-law, Tommie Smith of Apex, NC; forty-five grandchildren, and host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
