Mary L Higgins

Mary Louise Higgins (Nee Gause), born on March 2, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, was called to be one of God’s angels on August 8, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Henry Clyburn and Mattie Lovelace. Mary was the fifth of eight of eight siblings, four of whom preceded her in death. William and James Lovelace. Dorothy Sharp and Robert Clyburn.Mary was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She was employed with Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Environmental Services Division for 24 years. For many years, she enjoyed being a barmaid for numerous establishments employed with Esta’s Place, an Adult Day Care Facility, until she relocated to Elizabeth City, North Carolina.Mary was a child of God and a faithful member of Southern Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland and later, Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church of Elizabeth City, North Carolina under the leadership of Reverend Kelvin E. McDonald.On March 6, 2004, she married her long time friend, David Higgins, who affectionately called her “Perv-Perv” They had been the best of friends for more than 45 years. Mary loved her family and many friends. Her dedication to family could not be surpassed. She spent countless hours ensuring that her family had not only what they needed, but also what they wanted. She was the matriarch of her family. Despite her lengthy illness, her devotion to her family never waned. She remained strong willed and determined to live her life to the fullest until God saw that she had struggled enough and lifted her out of her pit of despair. Mary was a real inspiration to people who faced challenges in their lives. There are not enough words to describe her. She was a compassionate, trusting and fun loving person with a sweet, sweet spirit and the strength of Job. Her heart was good, as gold and she would do anything for anybody. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to thrift shop, play cards, fish, travel and cook. She was well know for her way with words, she had a very unique way of getting her point across and you always knew exactly where she was coming from. She truly knew how to show people a great time. She enjoyed life and was well loved by everyone who knew her. She would rejoice with you during happy times and lift your spirits during time of sadness.Mourning her loss and cherishing her precious memory; her loving husband, David, three children, Kimberly, Kevin, and Jonathan, seven grandchildren, Corey, Tamara, Shawniece, Kevin Jr., Jonathan Jr., Kendell and Miracle; four great-grandchildren, Corey Jr., Jaiden, Niam and Niyah; sister Barbara, two brothers, Joseph and Ralph; three brothers-in-laws, William, James and Willie, two stepchildren, Denise and David; special uncle, Willie Hubbard, nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
