Mary L. DeRamus

On Tuesday, June 16, 2009 God, in His infinite wisdom and unfailing love, instructed the angels that watched at the bedside of Mary Lucille DeRamus at Good Samaritan Hospital to "bring her home."MARY LUCILLE DeRAMUS, daughter of the late Liston Hugee and Essie Lee McWhite, was born on May 29, 1932 in Florence County, South Carolina. She was the oldest child of five siblings. She was preceded in death by one sister, Hattie Weeks.She received her education at Gibbs High School in Pamplico, South Carolina. She enjoyed playing basketball and won many championships. She also enjoyed playing baseball. After graduation, she relocated to Maryland.Mary Lucille was married to the late Algin DeRamus on May 28, 1953' to this union they had six children. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Kaybertha Baucom and Constance Chatlin.She was employed for many years with Baltimore City Public Schools then the Jewish Family Services until she retired in 1984. She was active in the community as a foster parent and with the Department of Social Services Kinship Care Program.Mary Lucille accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized in the Holy Spirit. She was a member of the House of God until she came to Maryland in 1950. She found her home church on the corner of Preston and Bond Street, Southern Baptist Church. She has been a devoted member and an active participant with the Women's Ministry and Seasoned Saints, as well as the President of the Flower Circle until her sunset.Those left to cherish her life and legacy are: Gloria Wright (William), Bernadette McFadden (Jerome); two sons, Gregory DeRamus and George Jeter (Eve); son-in-law, Earl H. Baucom; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; one sister, Annie Ruth Carter of New York; two brothers, Benjamin Hugee (Beverly) of Georgia and Sam Rufus Hugee of Pamplico, South Carolina; three aunts, Hattie Temple of Florence, Marie McWhite and Starlene McWhite of Pamplico. She also leaves to mourn cousins and a host of nieces and nephews; her devoted cousin, Dora Davis; and two devoted friends, Irene Stewart and Doris Cash.
