Mary Cecelia Herbert

As we journey through each day of life, planning, hoping, and looking forward to what lies ahead, we cherish the present and remember the good times of the past. But no matter how carefully we plan, no matter our hopes and dreams, interruptions happen as we embark upon life’s journey. One of those unexpected interruptions is the death of loved ones. Today we pause for a moment to celebrate and remember Mary Cecelia Herbert a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend. Mary Cecelia Herbert, daughter of the late Payton and Mary Elizabeth Reed was born in Clemons, Maryland on November 11, 1921 and was the first born and the last surviving sibling of seven children. She married the late James Herbert and this union was blessed with five children, Vernita (Tootsie), Angela, Carolyn (Towan), Angelo (Chuckie), and James (Bonkie). Upon moving to Baltimore City she made many friends and enjoyed socializing and traveling with family and friends. Mary Cecelia joined St. Edwards Roman Catholic Church and was a devout Catholic rearing and guiding her family in the ways of the Catholic faith. She embraced her new way of life with great faith and enthusiasm. Throughout her years of service she has participated in many church ministries and organizations; namely the Willing Workers, Knight of St. Peter Clavers, The Ladies Sodality, and Ladies Auxiliary. She was a devout Christian, who always prayed for others and remained centered in her faith by daily devotions and her most loved being the prayer of the Rosary. She was a charitable and devoted parishioner to St. Edwards Roman Catholic Church for over fifty five (55) years. Lastly she was a strong, independent, kind-hearted caring, humorous ‘Lady’. She leaves to cherish her lovely memory: five surviving children, Vernita (Tootsie), Angela, Carolyn (Towan), Angelo (Chuckie), and James (Bonkie),son-in-laws, daughter-in-law, Patricia Herbert, nineteen grandchildren, residing in Baltimore City-Metro Area, D.C. Metro Area, and New York City; Ricky Herbert, Vernita Moody, Lois Moody, Tracey Scott, Lynette Herbert, Nathaniel Herbert, David Brown, Adrienne Sivinton, Michelle Milton, Zantia Lucas, Baloti Lawrence, Rokya Samake, Angelique Herbert, Crystal Herbert, Kandace Herbert, James Herbert, Jr., and Shanal Wright-Green, Twenty-eight great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
