Mary Jane Crump

MARY JANE CRUMP born Mary Jane Alexander, daughter of the late George Alexander and Clara Jones Alexander, was born on March 18, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland. She suddenly departed this life on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Northwest Hospital. She received her education at Frederick Douglass High School; where she met and married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, the late Lewis Hackett in 1969. After his untimely death, Mary met Jimmie Washington Jr. and from this union one daughter was born, Janice Hackett. Mr. Washington has been a devoted friend whom visited her at the nursing home. Mary worked at White Coffee Pot as a waitress until she was diagnosed with Lupus in the early 80’s, but nothing could stop Mary. She had a zest for life. She loved dancing and making people laugh. She enjoyed meeting people and making friends. In making new friends, she met and later married the late Bernard Crump. Mary was a free spirit and kind hearted person who would curse you out, but give you her last. Known as a tough cookie at times, Mary had a heart of gold, especially when it came to her only daughter, grandchildren and her oldest sister Emma. Her daughter was her pride and joy and she made this known wherever she went. And if she didn’t mention it, her sister Emma, always right by her side, did. The Boxy twins, partners in crime, double trouble, dynamic duel. You name two people who were always together, it was Emma and Mary. Closer than sisters, they were best friends who shared an unbreakable bond. Mary was preceded in death by her father, George Alexander; mother, Clara Bethea; brothers, Marvin Ray Jones and Jerry Bethea. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and only child, Janice Forbes; son-in-law, Terry Forbes Sr.; five grandchildren, Dominique, Sha’nee, Terry Jr., Devin and Dylan Forbes; four sisters, Emma Hansley, Gerry Bethea, Gerrine Bethea and Madeline Bethea; three brothers, Larry Bethea, Alex Bethea and Lendell Bowens; three great-grandchildren, Demetrius, Daniele and Darius; five sisters-in-law, Joan Roberts, Doris Bethea, Ruby Wright, Joan Johnson and Pearl Jones; favorite nephew, Raymond Hansley Jr.; nieces, Linda Hansley and Charmaine Bethea; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, -nephews, great-great-nieces, -nephews; adopted niece, Sheri Smallwood; and loving roommate at Geneisis.
