Mary B. Webb

Mary Bernice Webb, daughter of the late Arthur and Mary S. Toler, was born January 20, 1929, in Columbia, Virginia. She departed this life at Future Care Nursing Home in Reisterstown, Maryland on December 5, 2003, after a lengthy illness.Affectionately known as “Mae,” Mary received her education in the public school system of Cumberland County, Virginia. She received Christ at an early age at the church of her childhood years, Pleasant View Baptist Church. After making Baltimore her home, Mary regularly attended Calvary Baptist Church until her illness prevented her from doing so.A devoted employee of the Baltimore City Public School System, Mary worked tirelessly as an office aide at Calloway Elementary School for 25 years. She took tremendous pride in her job and demonstrated a caring and sincere interest in both students and teachers. Former students frequently chatted with her about their fond memories together at Calloway.Mary loved gardening and was blessed with a “ green thumb.” Like her mother before her, she could often be seen working in her yard nurturing her plants to perfection. Another great love was Mary’s fondness for people. She enjoyed talking to her neighbors and often visited those who were sick and shut-in.Married to the late Samuel H. Webb, Sr. for 35 years, Mary bore three children: Samuel, Jr., Jerome and Anthony. She was a wonderful, supportive mother who was very proud of her sons. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and particularly loved the companionship of her sister, Ines. The two of them talked on the telephone daily and often traveled together, visiting family and friends.Mary leaves to mourn: her loving sons, Samuel (Linda) of Ellicott City, Jerome (Sylvia) of Dayton, Ohio and Anthony (Deidre) of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Adrienne and Bryland Webb of Ellicott City, Devin and Brianna Webb and Shawn Colbert of Dayton, Ohio, and Tiffany Curry of Baltimore; two devoted sisters, Ines Webb of Baltimore and Madeline Cabbell of Columbia, Virginia; a brother-in-law, John Streat of Columbia, Virginia; two aunts, Estelle Wade and Irene Wade of Columbia, Virginia; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A third sister, Elsie Streat, preceded Mary in death.Mary Webb lived a good life and leaves a rich legacy to her family. To her sons she leaves her quiet, gentle nature. To her grandchildren she leaves her warm and inviting personality. To her sisters she leaves her grace under fire. Mary will be sincerely missed by all that knew her. She endured a long journey, but has found peace at last.
