Marvin Alexander King

Marvin Alexander King was born on November 9,1947,in Waverly,Virginia to the late Ruth Bailey King and William King. He was the sixth of eight children born to the King family. Marvin accepted Christ at an early and was baptized at the Apostolic Faith Church of God. Marvin left Waverly at the age of nine when his family moved to Richmond,Virginia. He attended public schools in Richmond and graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1966. After graduating from high school,Marvin joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years as a medic. Upon completion of his service in the Air Force,Marvin attended Virginia Commonwealth University(VCU) where he met his loving wife,Renee Blakey-King. After graduating from VCU,the couple moved to Cleveland,Ohio where Marvin worked as a Manager for the Ford Motor Company for eight years. In 1985,Marvin and Renee moved to Greenbelt,Maryland where their daughterAshley was born. At that time Marvin began work at the Department of Energy. The family then moved to Herndon,Virginia in 1991. marvin joined Martin Luther King Church on August 28,2000,and served on the Usher Board for many years. Marvin was an enthusiastis member of Omega Psi Fraternity Inc,where he worked on several committees including the Scholarship and Finance Committees. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Marvin was also a caring and devoted foster parent for the last four years. He assisted in the development and nurturing of numerous foster children. Marvin will always be remembered for his kind and friendly spirit,loving smile and sarcastic humor. Marvin leaves to cherish his memories his living wife,Renee Blakey-King and daughter,Ashley Renee King.His sisters; Evelyn Blackmon,Melvin Gray,Barbara Carter,Helen King and their families. His brothers; William Linwood King,Alton King(Janet),Herbert Leroy King and their families.Devoted mother-in-law;Marie Townes and father-in-law,Eddie Winfrey Blakey,brothers-in-law;Randy Blakey(Carolyn),Leroy Blakey(LaVern)and Jerry Blakey.Sisters-in-law,Sharon Blakey and Phyllis Pollard(Jack). Special nieces,Jackie Pollard,Natasha Pollard and Sharanda Blakey and a host of firends and relatives.
